The previous S80 was the first model off this platform. At this point, though, I doubt much of the original platform remains the same. It's a very lose term.

As mentioned earlier, the Edge like the Fusion is derived from the Mazda6, not the Volvo platform.

Mike,

Thanks for clearing that up - I missed it the first time. I'm sure I read someplace that the edge and the explored shared a platform, they are almost identical dimensions. But I've also read that the wk2 shares a platform with every random mercedes short of the 300 gl so I should be more of a skeptic.

New article snippet...

"The Explorer looks absolutely refined in person, although the Jeep Grand Cherokee has a bit beefier all-terrain look and gets the nod as the more appealing total re-design."

nope no downhill and no wind.. and the number kept reducing with the more mods i added.. and this is an 2010 with the VVT 360Hp 5.7 (if that counts for anything even)

i cant vouch for the accuracy of the dashhawk but its all i have and as i said with the Flashpaq internal timer the best i have so far is 5.43s 0-60 but i havent made any more runs on that

Just an FYI, surely your "methods" may soon be challenged by the resident expert-on-everything. Can your dashhawk method get within a 1/10th sec for a 1/4 mile time during actual race day track results? If it is repeatable within a narrow variance then it's a decent comparison tool...and you have a quick truck. GPS and inertia based units are not as accurate for 0-60 times as an actual physical measurement, even if it involves human interaction (aka: stopwatch).

Either way, when I test drove a V6 4x4 Explorer this weekend for grins&giggles the performance was nowhere near the Hemi powered WK2; as I recall the V6 WK2, it is a bit slower than the new Explorer but not by much and only noticeable in an immediate off the line roll out. The Jeep rides better over bad pavement and felt more solid, IMHO. The Explorer is a nice vehicle other than the fiddly climate control and stereo layout, again IMHO.

Not at all. He wasn't using some guy's thumb to get his numbers. It's a shame you can't grasp that simple concept.

No, we used a timer (aka "stopwatch") and a laser to measure elapsed time to speed and elapsed time to distance; it's a very simple measure. I'm confident in my numbers and our comparison track times going back several years support up my methods, but your questionable input proves that you are the one who does not grasp that simple concept. You say a lot, without adding substance, yet failed to disprove my methodical accuracy, nor have you bothered to demonstrate methods you deem more accurate (and to WHAT degree, might I ask? 1/10th sec? 1/1000th?). Your brilliant retort is a petulant "...some guys thumbs...".

We human beings did, after all, learn how to build engines, how to fly aircraft and send rockets into space with nothing but slide rules, pencil and paper and, yes, stopwatches to measure various results. Good grief, man! How in the world could humans ever accurately accurately develop a celestial calendar or circumnavigate the globe without computers or GPS or whatever instrument you deem superior? It couldn't have been possible without more accurate methods or instruments, right?

Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. That's all you said. Why? Simple-- you used a thumb. Nothing else matters because you used a thumb. Thumbs (and reflexes) aren't accurate. End of story. Get over it.

Re: 2011 Grand Cherokee vs. 2011 Ford Explorer

BTW, I sent this thread to some of my friends and they all got a big laugh out of the fact that you think your methods are accurate. You really should contact the NHRA and tell them about Leo and his fast thumbs. They could hire you guys to do the timing at all of their national events.

Sure wish the site administrator would just delete or discontinue the diatribes as they lack in civility as well as don't really add to much IMHO.

My apologies; I take snide remarks personally and attempt to supportmy conclusions where applicable. Others may find value, some pursue argumentative discourse with petulance.

BMWister,

You should ignore MSCA, he's just chumming for fights. See "The Contrarian Troll" in the following link:
