so i test drove a limited 5.7 WK2 today. i snapped pics of everything i could just for more photos of the WK2 that arent the age ol' stock ones weve been seeing forever now. anyways enjoy the pics!
The rear wiper motor really stands out because it's black. I'm guessing they could have made it integrated into all of that plastic so it would be a straight bottom window, but then then rear window and visibility would have shrunk 30%. I agree about the ebrake, and the normal brake looks a little funky to me. I hope that curved bar is made of some tough metal.
So the switch controlling snow, mud, sand etc isn't related to air suspension? I thought it was, but the up/raise & down/lower/park buttons to the right of the knob aren't there so I guess I'm wrong.
i mentioned this else where but didnt here...this model was their yest ginny.
they just got in in on thursday after all the employees took it on trails and rocks and etc. (what the salesman told me) unfortunately this model had every option but adjustable pedals and the air left options. so thats why its not on the knob (4x4 control area)
the car rode nice, it has some pep too but im used to the SRT8 as in pedal resistance and speeds blah blah. so i basically was hurtin the engine driving like i was in my SRT8. its ridiculously nice over bumps though!!! im talking i flew over train tracks that i go over soo slow with my SRT but with the WK2 i flew and rode over them like nothing was there. the seats are very comfortable but i wouldnt say more comfortable than SRT8 seats but def more comfortable than WK1 seats. lots more room for taller folks too. even the back seat had a good 6-10 inches from the front seat to my knee. i dislike the new tilt button for the steering wheel though. (its wack with a knob/turning thingy. i rather adjust it myself with more predicable setting than the WK2 has.
all in all its a nice car but i dont feel like im driving in or just being driven in a jeep. i dunno how to describe it but it very much feels like im driving a VW touareg- to be honest. its very quiet (a lot more than the WK1) though. the rear cargo had interesting sections for storage along side a spare wheel hidden below the cargo deck- on each side- which was nice.
id def entertain a WK2 SRT8 but i wouldnt rush to trade in a nice WK overland or limited just for this WK2 just yet thoug- but thats my opinion. i feel a hooked up WK1 wins my vote if i had to pick between the two... ofcourse i say this now but as it is now, im happy they finally made it out of hiding but not feeling much at all to be terribly honest here.
but im still a jeep guy, just will have to wait and see how this WK2SRT8 will come out:thumbsup:
end essay/rant/script/preach/bickering here...hahaha:thumbsup:
Rear glass opens up from bottom too so to have the widest sweep of the blade at eye level the wiper moter is mounted at the bottom right by the striker/latch. they could have mounted it in the hatch but it would have to be really low and lift off the glass to get out of the way far enough to allow the glass to clear. In my test drives I found the view out the back restricted at first but after 10 miles it was fine. Rear pillers are real hefty as well but I guess that's what allows a rollover roof crush rating of 5X vehicle weight. One of the highest ever tested.
Love the exterior but the interior still looks bland and dated compare to the offerings of cars in this class. Chrysler really needs to revamp their interiors just like what GM did after the Malibu. At least the dash is made so that the radio can be easily swapped out.
I also saw a limited at my jeep dealer and since i was there early, i looked over it with a fine tooth comb.
Pros about the WK2:
heated steering wheel on the limited
Locking gas door!
reclining rear seats
stash compartment in center console (basically opens in 2 modes)
remote start
more compartments in the rear area! (spare is in the trunk now)
built in led flashlight
auto headlight leveling
vented front seats (i think)
Cons:
shitty fabric material in lieu of plastic wheelwell area
sunroof with moonroof combo (takes up too much headroom IMO)
battery connection terminals in eng compartment seperated
I'm guessing the MSRP of this Limited was in the $45.5k range...can you confirm? Seems like it has just about everything except the air lift suspension and the DVD panel.
I'd say you also focus on this black box due to the light interior color. If I'm not mistaken, the material below this box will be black as well and kind of "blend in" if you opt for black leather or the upcoming Saddle Brown which would be black in the trunk as well.
The rear wiper motor placement irked me at first, too. It's a beautiful car inside and out, but it has this huge wart hanging on the back glass. At first I felt it restricted my view, but I, too, got used to it being there rather quickly. I still think it looks like crap, though.
