A not so great review:

Re: 2011 Grand Cherokee WK2 Reviews

well, i have to agree with the reviewer - if the GC price is close to a LR4 - i would choose the LR4. Tthere are some things in the interior that they can make better in the future and i don't care about the missing handles.

Sounds also like he needed to spend 5 minutes with the user manual to discover the "sport" mode -- that should take care of his desire to limit the early upshifts, right?

Lastly - not even the cursory nod to the Jeep's off-road capabilities? This guy needs to go back to reviewing minivans.

Re: 2011 Grand Cherokee WK2 Reviews

I do agree with a few of his comments but with regards to price (in Canada), the Overland starts at $49,995 which is a far cry from an LR4 LUX for about $70,900 here. A base LR4 starts at $59,900 and base GC Laredo at $37,995.

* 10k is a lot of money..most writers I know can't throw around 10K...
* I test drove the Audi Q7, LR4, Range Supersport, BMW, ML...all of them.
The only car that made me even consider upgrading was the Range
Rover Supersport...that thing is a gem, but also $100K. The others
offer 'marginal' (by my definition, marginal can also mean subjective)
upgrades at substantial premiums. Congrats to these brands for
earning the right to charge more, but from my hands on review the
GC Overland is a statement vehicle.
* I'm starting to get tired of these writers trying to make a niche perhaps
among their peers by thinking they are writing something 'different' or
perhaps in their (writer) mind, finding an angle. People are too smart
these days, and trust their own instincts more than some writer.

Just my opinion...and it's great that we can choose what is a great car by voting with our wallets...Jeep's latest numbers don't lie.

I agree. In essence he's saying "Why buy the Jeep for $50k when for 20% more you can get basically the same Land Rover?"

@ bpmcgee : when you say "the same Land Rover?"...do you also mean that the Land Rover is a better value for that 20%? Just trying to understand.

Re: 2011 Grand Cherokee WK2 Reviews

Long-term update from daily drivers at Consumers Reports: http://blogs.consumerreports.org/car...-cherokee.html

Sounds lots more favorable now that they have been actually driving it in the real world.

No. He says "at 50k you're approaching the 60k-ish price of the Land Rover, which is one of it's closest competitors." He doesn't say that the LR is better, rather that they are very close competitors. By which I take it that they are almost the same.

So, without adding my own opinion, it sounds like he's saying "why by a vehicle for 50k when you can get about the same vehicle for 60k?".

We could argue until the cows come home about the comparitive cost/benefit points of the two vehicles, but that would be off topic for this thread.

Re: 2011 Grand Cherokee WK2 Reviews

Reliability of Land Rover and Range Rover is almost ZERO!
Ppl become crazy to see always the car into garage….
The cost of the car is more expansive than ours and I feel “old design”…
