Re: 2011 Grand Cherokee WK2 Reviews

Then I went to read the 'GC vs LR4' article, and again they didn't use a QD equipped GC. Either they're just being sloppy in the review planning, or they're biased. I'm honestly curious how a fully loaded GC stacks up to the LR4 offroad. I suspect the Jeep is much more capable in real offroading, right?

Well what do you mean by real offroading? You mean rock climbing? Both the LR4 and the GC have features to be both comfortable onroad and offroad. Even though not many take either vehicles offroad they are both striving for the same thing. The systems in the LR4 are probably more expensive and work better but I'm a Jeep guy so hell with the LR4. I think it's kinda ugly and I much rather GC!

Well, the LR4 is only a "few" thousand more than a topped out GC Overland. But yeah, it's horribly ugly. Also, in another thread it was pointed out that the magazines generally don't get to choose the trim and options of the vehicles they have available for comparisons, they get what the manufacturer gives them. Ah well, I'll just get my GCO when the time comes and be happy.

I'll be the first to give the LR it's kudos. I, personally, think it's gorgeous. The revised headlights aren't that great (too complicated with faux-Audi LEDs), but the lines of the rig are clean, modern and simple. The interior is fantastic. If I could afford one (to maintain one, that is) I would buy it in a heartbeat.

Standard: V8 (375 horsepower and 375 lb-ft torque) 7700 lbs towing and Terrain Response along with a fording depth of 27.6 inches is hard not to respect.

The GC is the next best thing and is certainly priced right, good looking and has a lot more dealers to support me when I'm on the road (compared to LR). I drive about 35K a year.

Check out this hi-res Motor Trend Test:

LR4 vs GX vs GL

You might also need to afford to keep them repaired, if the LR2's track record is any indication: lousy reliability and pricey parts. I offroad in a relative's abandoned rock quarry that's like a shrunken Grand Canyon, and the old GC plows ahead like an elephant and clings like a python. I can hardly wait to try it with the Quadra-Lift.

Another positive review from Autoblog. With some great pics, too.
