I just wonder if it's common for dealer to pay invoice to another dealer in a situation like this. Given the distance the vehicle has to go, I don't think the $895 is too far off of the cost to ship the vehicle - @600 miles

Yes, it is quite common. Your dealer will get all of the hold back money. Since they will not drop the price below invoice on a 2011, I would go to another dealer and ask them if they can get the same vehicle. Get a delivered price, plus any incentives, then bring in the trade. If you don't like the deal, ask them about ordering a 2012. You should be able to get it at $500-1k below invoice, as there would be no lot time. Whatever you do, keep the trade separate from the purchase.

I thought it was and figured they would get what I think is a 3% hold back. I would have been happy at invoice given the amount of the trade in. Me thinks they are playing games with me! Good advice on another local dealer, I will do that.

Holdback on all Jeep's is 3% of the total MSRP (Base MSRP + Options)

Re: 2011 or 2012 Overland? Paint choice consideration

Update - Went in and saw the original dealer yesterday, came to terms on my new Overland! I'm paying $450 to get it to NY from NC. Also taking delivery either before or after 9/6 so I can straddle a possible incentive boost for 2011's. I can't imagine the incentive gets worse and hopefully a little better. In addition to them meeting me on the shipping, my decision came down to a couple of other items:

1. Color - I just don't think Black Forest Green does it for me, so this was my last chance to get the Natural Green Pearlcoat.

2. I also reached out to two other dealers locally in Rochester, the experience astounded me. First one promises to call me back within a couple of hours. Six hours later, no call - I call and complain a little to another rep. Abundant apologies and a promise to call me later that evening (Thursday) or first thing in the AM. It's Sunday morning folks, no phone call. Business must be so good they don't have time.

Second one - I visit these folks. It was back to the 1980's for car buying. I luck out and get the Al Bundy of cars apparently. Couldn't locate the vehicle I knew was there in the system (he didn't try very hard), I inquire about 2012's - not sure on color, etc. How about you give me a number on my trade in - outright refused as he says he has nothing to sell me. I probe a little more as to where they would sell a new one that I ordered. - Maybe $1K OVER invoice. I said goodbye, never to set foot there ever again.

Original sales guy at where I bought it is night and day. Responsive at all hours via email. Met me at the door both times after he saw me drive in, etc.

Anyway - happy to be joining the Jeep family again!

Glad you ironed it out. Your timing (end of month) certainly helped get your dealer to compromise. Now the wait begins.

Re: 2011 or 2012 Overland? Paint choice consideration

Their sales figure this month probably made them move, but the paperwork will probably be done beginning of the month so it probably doesn't help their quota this month...

Maybe but I think in the end it was they could find a lesser $$$ shipper that would take a little longer (I don't care when it shows up in September, free miles on my current vehicle). They still insisted that they are losing the hold back - if that's true does the original dealer get it?! In the end, I'm happy with the deal and I'm getting a full tank of gas - they said Chrysler only provides for $30 or so of gas at delivery now as a standard.

Re: 2011 or 2012 Overland? Paint choice consideration

They will not lose the holdback. The selling dealer gets it.
Regarding the gas; I stopped in at my dealer yesterday to pick up a bill of sale for my bank. I noticed the invoice they gave me had a line reading $29 for 7 1/2 gallons of gas. This is what Chrysler includes on all vehicles. The dealers generally pass this charge along in the negotiated price. Then I looked at the bill of sale and noticed they added another $25 for gas. The manager said they add that on to every purchase. I'm not sure I believe that since I have never seen that before. I said to the him, "So you don't even fill the tank?" He said "No". I got a very good price and trade amount so I didn't want to push too much but after bantering a bit he agreed to fill the tank. I am supposed to pick it up on Tuesday and will make sure that happens.
