The steering wheel trigger is nice, as are the 15 presets, but I think the feedback is that it would be quite a bit easier to hit one button to get to your favorite station(s), maybe among other things.

FWIW, the joystick on many of the Alpine head units also mirrors the Ipod wheel functions really nicely, and the usb interface is seamless and fast. Other OEM systems incorporate a joystick for basic radio, SAT, NAV, and other functions.

Sure, there may be a learning curve, but sounds like Rob and others have gone through that and have these opinions?

touchscreen is whats in....not 2000 buttons on a single radio so all you old folks can touch one button to get where you want......LOL. The previous gen had a joystick...which was a piece of crap. But Im sure if it all had the buttons....you guys would complain it had too many and needed some touch functions.....LOL

Re: 2011 Overland ORII @ 1 month

Great report, thanks for the write up Rob.

Waiting until next week to order almost the exact same Jeep with the addition of the ACC and different colors, but waiting for the Summit Edition specs.

IMO the same thing applies to both touchscreen and joystick setups - if the execution is weak, the medium doesn't matter. Apple has both versions dialed with the Ipad touchscreen and the Ipod wheel.

Some are calling the new screen crap as it requires multiple touchscreen toggling and has poor res. Should be able to be updated, or we could wait for the next gen.

Thanks for the thoughtful writeup!

With regard to the manual, I downloaded it from the Jeep website, and it is on my iPad so I can read it when I have some idle time. I guess it is all what you are used to... I understand Kia is giving away iPads with their newest high-end sedan, with the manual pre-loaded! That's the future, my friends

Re: 2011 Overland ORII @ 1 month

I owned a 2002 Overland then traded it in for a 2006 Overland. I agree the 02 had the most comfortable seats ever. People would always comment on the great feel. I was hoping the WK2 would go back to that design. So I don't think your picky.

Re: 2011 Overland ORII @ 1 month

Thank you for all of the great info, Rob. I am planning on test driving an Overland Hemi this weekend. Now I will really know what to look closely at. I have an 08 Overland Hemi. Great power in the mountains. The Nav radio sounds like the same as mine. Does your's have the Sirius Travel Link? I am curious how that works. What area in Denver do you live? I live just west of DIA during the week (to be close to work) and my real home is in Bailey.

Re: 2011 Overland ORII @ 1 month

I totally agree with you on the seats, the seats on my WJ overland were a lot more squishy maybe that's why there were more comfortable.
