2011 Overland V8 - no tow package??

Thinking about jumping back into another Jeep. Found a 2011 Overland with the 5.7 but no tow package. I know I can add the hitch but what else would be needed to get the most towing potential? It does not have the quadra lift so will it just be standard shocks that let the back end drop when I hook up a heavy trailer?

Thanks for the help!

Re: 2011 Overland V8 - no tow package??

Yeah the back end may drop, you'll probably have to use a load leveling hitch for heavy trailers. The tow package on the V8 also includes a high capacity alternator and HD cooling (larger radiator I think) and I dunno if those are standard on that Overland. If its not listed on the window sticker, perhaps the dealer would print out a build sheet for you.

There may be a short wiring harness needed and the computer needs to be reprogrammed for trailer tow.

edit... the tow package also had a full size spare.

As far as I know, all 2011 and 2012 Overlands come with the tow package standard.

Re: 2011 Overland V8 - no tow package??

Early 2011s had a wide variety of configurations, and it may not be a 4WD model which I don't think get the load leveling shocks anyway.... ... or an export.. .

Thanks for the quick response! It is a 4x4 so I was thinking the hd alternator and cooling parts were standard on the V8, correct? I think the shocks are deal breaker though....

What are you planning to tow? Define "heavy trailer"..

So would you guys agree the lack of load leveling shocks or quadra lift means I should keep looking?

Re: 2011 Overland V8 - no tow package??

I'd keep looking personally. I believe the heavy duty brakes are also a part of the V8 tow package. Unless this one is a crazy amazing deal, I'd pass and get one that is properly outfitted from the factory for towing. Factor in the cost of parts and labor to add the tow package, and it's possible that the deal doesn't look as good anymore.

That said... I was under the impression that V8 4x4 Overlands should all have the tow package. 4x4 Overlands should also have Quadralift. It's possible what you're looking at is either not 4x4, or not an Overland.

Early in 2011 you could get an overland 4x4 without QL, there are a few around. Dunno about the tow package.

I just needed to hear someone else tell me, thanks.

I think early 2011 the factory was pretty flexible with what it let out the door. It has the leather dash, overland badges, embroidery, etc and I confirmed this afternoon that it was a 5.7 4WD, but no QL and no hitch. Dumb.

Back to the drawing board. Thanks again!

The HD Brakes come standard with the V8. On the V6 perhaps HD brakes only comes with the tow package.
