2011 versus 2016. Any major changes over the years? Current owner.

Hey guys,

Always thought this was a great forum. It looks like our 2011 is having problems with the AC again. Every year I go through the same thing, and they can never find the leak. Honestly our 2011 has been one of the most unreliable cars we've ever had (even had the breaks fail on me). But we still love it.

We are strongly considering replacing it because of these issues and I have been cross shopping all weekend, only to find we like the WK2's the best still!

My question for the experts is if it is worth it trading in a 2011 for a 2016. We have the Hemi with the 5 speed, and pretty much every option. Have things been really improved over the years? And has the car gotten more reliable? Any major changes that would make this worth it?

I appreciate it guys... thanks!

Like mentioned, yes HUGE improvements. Even though its the same overall platform, there are major changes inside and out. The 2014+ refresh was significant and really dates the 2011-2013 years. Best thing to do is go see for yourself and drive one. For the best overall experience drive a Summit or Overland. The 8spd transmission makes the overall driving experience MUCH better!

Re: 2011 versus 2016. Any major changes over the years? Current owner.

I had a 2011 4x4 V8 Summit and struggled with justifying changing to a 2014 4x4 V8 Summit thinking I am just throwing money away since there can't be THAT many improvements, right?

Well, I am very happy that I bit the bullet and got the 2014. Lots of small things and the big one was the smoother transmission that makes it even more fun to drive. So if a 2011 to 2014 switch was worth it then I am sure a 2011 to 2016 is even more worth it!

As an FYI in case you hadn't read the threads on the 17's order banks open in less than two weeks in case you are interested, although I am not sure where you are from so no AC may be oppressive depending on your situation.

I'm feeling the same as you about my 2012.

It's really hard to find a another truck to switch to.

I've given myself a year and a half to pull the trigger.

Problem is , the new trucks look newer/cost more but has less content.

I like my truck but I've had issues....

4 chrome rims rusted
Power steering pump.
Loud suspension noise
Click in front end
Adaptive cruise button defect
Broken glove box
Hard leather (on long trips)
Lots of rust lift gate latch area
DRL burned-out too early
Brake squeal from day 1
Transmission has constant issues
FCW needs refining
Sunroof rattles over bumps
Plastic rail on roof fading
Rotors warp early

Like you I still like my truck a lot.

Keep in mind , if you upgrade you will loose ...

Dual exhaust
Flip glass
And a few other things.

Lot us know what you decide.

Good luck.

Are dual exhausts no longer on the V8/Diesel drive trains?

Re: 2011 versus 2016. Any major changes over the years? Current owner.

I had no complaints about the 5 speed in my 2011, but holy crap the 8 speed is so much smoother and keeps you in the sweat spot rpms better.
I did miss the flipper glass, but I'm over it. Power tailgate is nice. Long things now stick out of the passenger window.

Re: 2011 versus 2016. Any major changes over the years? Current owner.

Live in a climate without rust and has been garaged since day one so my '12 is "like new". Did have the cyl head replaced and have a lifetime warrenty so frankly see no reason to change other than the new transmission.

Have said before but whether towing a car or a trailer it is the best tow car I've ever had and is easy to park.

Re: 2011 versus 2016. Any major changes over the years? Current owner.

Another huge improvement is the interior. The 8.4" uconnect is friggin sweet, and the digital instrument cluster is just bad ass! Love the interior night color more than the older 2011-2013 green. The front and rear end exterior changes make a huge difference IMO. Not that they are bad per say, but when I see a 2011-2013 it just looks so dated now being used to the new ones. 8spd transmission as mentioned makes both the V6 and V8 MUCH better. The tranny in my 2012 Overland V6 was the single reason I got rid of that thing. It technically worked fine, but never shifted when you would want it to, and just made for a very bland overall driving experience.

eh? Duals are still there, flipper glass was a big loss I admit, but you do gain a lot of other features. The 8.4 Uconnect continues to improve, LED lighting options have been added, and they have made some changes under the hood.
