Re: 2011 WK: Garmin navigation

Oh Jesus, so there's a chance the RHR might not be Garmin based?!

The WK2 site indicated it was.... and then that line was removed.

(keeping my fingers crossed the RER firmware is upgradable)

Re: 2011 WK: Garmin navigation

Jeep has been advertising for a long long time now that the new Jeep Grand Cherokee would have Garmin navigation. I mean going back a couple of years at least maybe more. There was no mention that there would be two systems available (730N or 430N) one Garmin and one something else, just that it would have Garmin navigation. If when the 730N RHR does become available and if it is not based on Garmin I believe it will be a major departure from what Jeep has planned to do, and will signal that something is wrong between them and Garmin.

Not necessarily. Not everyone prefers the Garmin interface. There are also contractual agreements, "royalty" costs and other considerations.

Chrysler will be introducing a new Garmin based 8.4 touch-screen radio (with and without nav) very soon in the new 300, new Charger and the Journey. Unfortunately it will not fit the WK.

Isn't this akin to introducing an engine with direct injection, but continuing with other engines that don't have that? They met their promise with the 430N. Seems to me that the real question is "why are they keeping the same model designation but giving a sub model lettering system?" Very confusing, and actually about the only thing that remains ambiguous. Should just be the 830N or something similar.

Re: 2011 WK: Garmin navigation

Dealer confirmed the wrong unit was installed last night. Stated there were 500 Limited's shipped with the 430 and not 430N.

He ordered a new one, so should be all set!

Thanks for the replies.

You're right, from the pics it is the N, but the model number on the bottom right is RBZ. Strange....

Guess I'm calling the dealer tomorrow.

LOVE the vehicle so far, though!!!!!

And maybe why, in early build state, the factory can mix up a unit with the same numerical designation! Ridiculous (as I continue to repeat myself).

The WK2Jeeps.com navigation web page has just been updated to confirm that the new RHR radio will have Harmon based navigation and not Garmin.

In that case I'm *really* glad my Overland will have the 430N. The extra goodies of the 730N would be nice, but I'm not interested in sacrificing the actual navigation abilities (seeing as how that's its entire reason to exist).

Thanks for confirming this - glad to hear this was figured out. Do you expect any additional details to come out regarding advanced features...like what would make this one preferred to the current 730n? I see on wk2jeeps that is says advanced voice control - anything additional? New GUI for the nav or other areas?

Also I think this was answered previously - but will the current 730n be able to upgrade to the new version via software or would you have to buy and swap out the entire unit? Assuming the software upgrade would be a more cost effective alternative for me, I would consider doing it. But if I had to swap out the unit and pay full retail it wouldn't make much sense to me.
