Agree - give me my HD radio. Wife's 535 wagon has it and we love it. Makes AM talk radio sound like FM and FM like CD. Plus, there's a sub-channel of all 90's grunge! excellent!

Jeep, give me HD radio.

Never gonna happen as long as they continue a relationship with sirius. Sirius would never allow it I dont think.

It's available on virtually all Ford (Lincoln) models with Sirius and on BMW-models with Sirius as well. Same applies to Mercedes. Can't really see why it should be any different with Jeep.

To me, HD Radio is not a substitute for Sirius in the first place..

Re: 2011 WK: Garmin navigation

Got a nice shiny brochure from a dealer yesterday, and also sat in an Overland in the showroom (no quadra lift, so it's soul was missing, imo). The sales manager told me the Garmin will come standard in the Overlands from now on (wasn't in this one) and that it will be top of the line with no other model available. I think he was confused, but looking in the brochure, the Garmin isn't even an option on Overlands when they compare all models with nav options. This is in the little additional brochure that's accompanies the big brochure in the back.
Anyway, looking at the comparisons on wk2jeeps, I can't decide which is the better system. I like the read/write USB option on the Garmin though. Is there ANY reason to NOT get the Garmin in your opinion? Thanks.

Re: 2011 WK: Garmin navigation

Sorry to bring this post back to life but I'm still confused.

As far as I can tell (by looking at websites and brochures) the Overland comes standard with the 730 (RER). However, people on here are saying that it comes standard with the 430 system. Which is it?

The main feature I'm looking for is integration between the iPod and the Jeep. I don't plan on using the onboard memory for music. Voice control also sounds like a cool option, but isn't necessary.

I haven't used either of the Nav systems before (Garmin or the older one) so I don't know which one is best. So, if there are people out there who understand the current way that Overlands are shipping and the differences between the Nav systems, I would really appreciate some clarification.

And yes, I have read the page on wk2jeeps about the differences between the systems, and I'm still confused.

Thanks in advance.

Currently it comes with the 430N standard. This was a late change, and every Overland ordered after very early July will have the 430N unless the 730N is added.

The 730N appears to have the built in iPod control, greater voice command capability, and a few other features lacking on the 430N. Personally, I'll take the Garmin system over the Harmon based 730N, but word has it that early next year the 730N will take on the Garmin designed software. I do not know how well the 430N interfaces with iPods; I plan to load up the internal memory and leave the iPod at home anyway.

The way Jeep has been with this information, you may be best waiting a few months (or at least weeks) until the situation becomes less confused. Jeep has not done us a service with the way they've played around with the features on the Overland. Hopefully mine will be here next week, and I'll have to post about exactly what is actually bolted on to the thing.

Re: 2011 WK: Garmin navigation

Correct, I order my overland on Saturday (7/31) and had to pay extra for the 730N (RER), something to the tune of 200-300 dollars. Otherwise the standard is the 430N. People who have the 730N in older jeeps seem to not have many issues, however if the Garmin does come to the 730N, possibly they will be able to just update it via software.

Re: 2011 WK: Garmin navigation

I was happy to see that the Alpine standard radio played DVD-Audio discs since I have a good collection of surround sound music. Unfortunately, it seems that, unless you upgrade to the 730, you don't even get a disc player in the Overland. With these headunits, do you get all the upgraded speakers as in the Alpine? If loaded into the harddrive, could it be possible to listen to multi-channel music?

Hi, Jim. Welcome to Jeep Garage!
Don't know the answer to your question, sorry; but someone will chime in, I'm sure!
Looks like you are getting ready to move up from the WJ?

Originally the 730N was the base system in the Overland, I guess as a running change Chrysler made the 430N the standard radio. That being said, and I might be wrong here. I haven't seen any proof that any 430Ns have made it to the lots as of yet. So if you're buying off the lot in the near future it should have a 730N installed.

Not really a question here, but I'll throw my two cents here. The 730N does have IPOD control, and comes with a cable. Connection is made in the center cubby under the HVAC controls. Your plan is the same as mine, I rather use the IPOD then the built in hard drive anyday.

I'm still confused also (and I own one). The more I read the more I'm confused. According to WKjeeps.com. The 730N supposed to have split screen capabilty and shows album artwork. So far I have yet to find out how to do this (I'll admit I'm old school, so I'm not good with this stuff). Now, the brochure states that the 730 has handsfree texting, bluetooth streaming audio, and Sirius travel link. I also see no evidence of this.

So my advice is you're planning on ordering. Wait until you're local dealer has a 430N and a 730N on the lot and give them both a shot, and then place your order accordingly.
