Some of the features you mention are new for the 2011 model year and may or may not be available for earlier model radios.

Yes, long time Grand owner starting with the '94 ZJ. Daughter drives an '02 Special Edition, and I now need to venture into the WK2. I plan to order an Overland when the saddle interior is available, and Milous was kind enough to respond to me that it looks like the middle of October for that. But, like others, I vary between that and a loaded Limited. I also am not sure of the air suspension system's longevity, and now the radio thing may not give me what I want from it. I have a very nice portable Garmin, and wasn't planning to get the nav built-in, instead getting the Alpine with its DVD-A capability. But pricing out the two models, the Overland, with all its extra features, only shows about a $600 increase in price over the Limited, and the saddle interior is calling my name!

If loaded into the harddrive, could it be possible to listen to multi-channel music?
I'm sure the 430N has a disc player- according to the WK2jeeps.com nav page, it has CD and DVD capability (and I'd guess MP3 as well, but why you'd run that off an optical disc over uploading them to the drive is beyond me). The base head unit in the Laredo X and Limited is the 430; I am guessing from the model number that this means the 430N is the same unit, but with the nav capability enabled/installed. So what goes for the 430 in terms of media playback will also go for the 430N. This is just my speculation, however.

Thanks for all of the help guys. I went to my Jeep dealer last night and asked them, just to see if they could shed any light. The head sales manager informed me that Overlands in the future will come standard with the 730N, as shown on the website. However, she said that they had an issue with availability on the 730N, and so shipped out some Overlands with the 430N. In the future though, they should ship out standard with the 730N, according to her.

I think I'll wait a couple of weeks and continue to follow this and make sure that Jeep ensures that all of their ordering information and dealers are on the same page on this issue. From what I've read on here, the Garmin interface is better, so maybe they'll load the Garmin software onto the 730N in the future?

Thanks.

Re: 2011 WK: Garmin navigation

I ordered a 2011 Limited with navigation on July 10th, 1400 under MSRP (excluding administration and other fees around 1k under MSRP). The order has specified 730N as navigation unit. Reading the forum, I am not sure if I will get the 730N or 430N. Any information on this?

My understanding is that this is the case. It isn't just the difference in the interface, but the all-important routing instructions; Garmin is simply the leader in this. The routing algorithms in the GPS are what determines how "correct" the route happens to be. Maps and whatnot may be shared between units, but the routing algorithms are what REALLY matters, and that's why I'd rather have the 430N Garmin unit, even though the 730N does have some nifty capabilities.

Heh, we ordered the same day. The Limited does not come with nav as a standard feature, so you'd have been picking out which one you wanted- the 430N or the 730N. Since you specified the 730N (and presumably paid for it), I strongly expect that is what you will receive. All the confusion is centered around which unit is standard on the Overland, not what is optional on the other trim levels.

Re: 2011 WK: Garmin navigation

I think Jeep has really ballsed up the whole radio thing, their web site is out of date. Here is my two cents from what I've been able to gather.

Perhaps there is confusion between the two 430 radios as delivered in the 2010 models -- REN then RBZ, apparently a running change in Jan 2010 -- and the 430N (RHB) Nav system equipped in the 2011 GC.

However, according to Jeep's website, they still list the 430 as standard equipment for the 2011 Laredo and Limited, and 730N (RER) for Overlands. If you look at the detail on the 430 it then states that the Uconnect Voice Command with Remote USB Port is optional. I have not seen a hard copy of the 2011 brochure but will take the above statements to be correct that now the 2011 Limited and Overland are shipping with the 430N as standard, and the 430N is equipped with ipod jack and voice command (for the ipod) etc. The 430N has the new features -- handsfree texting, bluetooth streaming audio, and Sirius travel link -- and these will come to the 730N RHR when released, but they are not on the current 730N RER. The new RHR 730N will also retain all the other features the RER has over the 430/430N radios.

If you plan on using the Bluetooth features you should check to see if your phone is compatible. For some reason the Nav equipped radios have a much smaller compatibility list than the standard radios. Both the 430/430N and 730N appear capable of charging the ipod with an appropriate cable (and compatible ipod model).

My guess is Jeep wants to ship the Garmin 730N (RHR) on the Overland but they are not ready yet, this will be another running change from the 730N RER in Jan. next year. So they could either equip the Overland with the older (2007 design) 730N RER or the new 430N RHB. The Garmin based RHB looks more impressive to prospective buyers due to the software so this probably prompted them to make the change. I further guess they will fall back to the 730N RHR for the Overland when it becomes available.

As far as I know all the radios have a CD player, you need to push the load or open/close button the move the Nav screen and expose the CD slot. In fact all Nav systems should be equipped with a DVD player as this will be required to load Nav map software updates.

Well it appears the 2011 user manuals are now available for download, these confirm many features... >> http://www.jeep.com/en/owners/manuals/index.html

Re: 2011 WK: Garmin navigation

I fail to understand why they would designate radio models with the same numbers, then put a tag behind noting a different model! Very confusing. They should just call it a 430, then when updated, call it the 440!

We ran into the above with my wife's Acura TL. There is a difference between simple Bluetooth capability and phones that support full Handsfree profiles. There is a difference, and some phones tend to support them while some don't. In my past experience, LG and Samsung phones do not (they might now). Apple iPhones, Blackberries, Palm phones, and Motorola products tend to support them (YMMV, depending on model and implementation). Handsfree profile phones will do a bit more than a simple Bluetooth connection; in some vehicles (like the Acura RL) some phones will even upload vehicle diagnostic data to the manufacturer. All kinds of stuff can be done.

I ordered a Limited with 730 RER on 7/10 and it is still in D status, you mention that you will be picking up in a week, what status is it now, what color did you order?
