Re: 2011 WK: Garmin navigation

So what will the 730n RHR (due Jan 2012) radio have over the existing 730n RER radio when it comes out? Besides the fact that it's "rumored" to be a Garmin interface, what other advantages?

All I can tell is what Humble listed above (excellent post by the way) which I believe "assumes" the new RHR radio will be a combination of both the 430N and current RER radio. If that's the case, then these would be the advantages correct?
Features the 430N RHB has over the 730N RER:
  • USB copy/read (i.e. play from USB stick, versus copy only as in the 730N RER), streaming bluetooth (i.e. for music, versus basic bluetooth in the 730N RER), hands free text, voice control over music (but not nav).
So what exactly are these features? Anyone using the 430N?
-Play from USB Stick - if I had 30 GB and I just download to my HD on the RER, is this really an advantage?
-Streaming bluetooth - what is this? Would an example be having Pandora on my iPod and streaming music from Pandora through my iPOD to my Jeep - b/c that's pretty sweet. If so - am I controlling all of this on the jeep radio or the ipod itself?
-Hands free text - is this sending text messages via voice?? Anyone know?
-Voice control of music? I thought the RER already had this? I know you can control the NAV on the RER via voice, so I'm assuming you can control radio and the rest as well. Speaking of controlling the NAV via voice, i saw the RER manual and it seems very unnatural as compared to some of the newer systems out there (FORD MY TOUCH). Does anyone know if the new RHR will have improved NAV voice control?
-I understand from some other posts that the lockpick can be used with the RER system to allow for DVD playback and NAV input via touch while moving. Does anyone know if the 430n system has a separate lockpick and would the new RHR system use a different lockpick than the exisitng one?

Hopefully we can get some posts from users of both systems to explain what exactly they can do. And one feature that I believe puts the RER OVER the 430n is the fact that you get SIRIUS real-time traffic updates.

Re: 2011 WK: Garmin navigation

If UConnect and its associated features is an option for the 430N, priced at $325 according to the posted image above, it may make more sense to just get the 730N for the additional $305 (option price at least for the Overland). If Steve is correct though, and it's standard for the Overland, it's good to know at least for those getting the other models.

My dealer said that as of Friday they have discontinued the 730n RER So you may have to wait till the new 730n RHR comes out if you want the Voice Nav

Could this actually be good news and that they are moving up the release of the newer RHR?
BTW. Thanks to everyone for an excellent discussion on this most confusing topic. This website remains the best if not only source of uptodate information on the 2011 Grand Cherokee!

Oh God, I really hope that's true. The RHR radio is the only thing holding me back from getting my new Overland. I refuse to order it without one.

Same here. If I am going to spend a large amount of money I' d like to get it right and be satisfied. I keep cars for a long time. This will be my 3rd Grand since 92.
By the way. You related to the guy from Altair IV.

No I'm actually related to Dr. Morbius, the living Vampire from Spiderman. He's my great uncle.

Re: 2011 WK: Garmin navigation

Glad to hear it. Guy I was thinking about was blown up at the end of the movie.
More to the point. I got a message on my voice mail from my dealer. They finally have an Overland to look at. Website says it has the 730N, I'll bring my ipod.

The 730N is not necessarily the RHR. It is more likely the RER variant; I've yet to hear anything here indicating the RHR is in production.

No, the RHR release is not being moved up. Testing is still under way.

RHR info will be updated very soon. "Ambiguous" only for info that is unconfirmed. Who said it was going to be Garmin based?
