One of the easiest and best methods to get 1% below invoice is Tread Lightly Chrysler Program (link below).

No fuss, no muss, though you might get some dealers looking to clear out certain 2011's a bit less than this program. YMMV depending upon the configuration you are seeking.

Subtract $1000 from that and you are at $35,578.

I'm pretty impressed that dalhberg123 can get an offer that's about $1000 under dealer cost.
Hammer,

No, holdback on Jeeps is 3% of TOTAL MSRP not Invoice. Take the TOTAL MSRP and multiple by .03 and you'll have the HOLDBACK.

Moose,

Tread Lightly is a solid program and best for early year models when the dealers don't budge much and there's no rebates. You can do better than tread lightly right now but it will require a little haggling potentially.

Go to Edmunds.com and price out the vehicle. The holdback on your vehicle is 3% of TOTAL MSRP which is $1406.25. Don't get fooled into thinking that Invoice MINUS HOLDBACK equals dealer cost. First of all the dealer doesn't pay the destination charge...we do. So dealer cost is really Invoice minus destination charge, minus holdback and then it's still less than that depending on volume discounts etc. I know Truecar tells you what dealer cost is but there are volume discounts and manufacturer to dealer incentives that ONLY the GM at the dealership is aware of. I always do invoice minus half the holdback at least or I won't purchase from that dealer. Then I subtract any applicable rebates. Remember that rebates don't come from dealer profit since they are reimbursed that amount by the manufacturer. In other words if a dealer offers you a car for $1K under invoice but there is $1K in rebates, it's as if they are selling you the car AT INVOICE meaning they are pocketing all of their holdback.

Thoughts? Does this seem like a solid deal to you folks?
Dahlberg,

Here you go.

MSRP = $39,575
Invoice = $37,244
Holdback = $1187.25

I don't know what rebates you're eligible for so you need to tell me to see if $34,500 is a good number. However, I would say go invoice, minus HALF the holdback at least and then subtract applicable rebates. You should ask for $600 of his holdback.

Re: 2011 WK2 Prices Paid

this is my first post

About a week ago, I got the wife an inferno red (anyone know why they charged xtra for that color?) 2011 Laredo 4x4 with off-road one and the tow package.

msrp w/ destination -> $34,615
price paid after $1000 incentive -> 30,957

Some interesting points about the deal is I can't find a dealer in Arizona that does not have a 300-600 doc fee (this one added $394 to the above number), the car was sold to a mountain town dealer here in AZ and had a build date of 11/2010 and had 160 miles after being driven down to phoenix sometime in August. Looks like I got a few tsb's ahead of me after reading this site but I decided going for this over 2012 because of the power seat for the wife while still affording the goodie options for me

Welcome to the club and congrats on the purchase!! Just a note for future reference concerning doc fees. They should always be between $50-$100 tops. Anything above that is overkill and profit padding. The dealer doc fees can ALWAYS be negotiated.

thanks

This is my third car purchase in this state, in my former state (IL) I believe doc fees were regulated to ~$100, but here in Arizona, at least the Phoenix area, it doesn't matter the brand / dealer, the doc fees are all high and the managers won't change them. I just tell the salesmen that whatever they quote me on the haggle I will be adding the profit from the doc fee when looking at the bottom line. They all frown when I tell them that the inflated doc fee is just their owner screwing them on commission.

That was the negotiated price before trade and before the service price. Im still waiting to get hosed from the county for my tags. Out here in CO. they figure the tags off of the MSRP. So I should get screwed for about another grand. Lived in alot of states and the license plate fees are insane.
