Re: 2012 - Finding Lowest Purchase Price

Okay any advice here...

I can get a 2011 Overland with 730n RHR for $38,900 (including 1000 rebate). The MSRP on this is $43,585.

I can get the same vehicle in 2012 for $40,500 - it has a $43,820 MSRP.

So I'm thinking the $1600 difference is worth it to get the '12 model, but would appreciate any opinions out there. It comes out to about $25 a month extra on a 72 month loan.

FYI the '11 was built July 5th so it's a very, very late model.

Besides the ability to roll the front windows down from the key fob, is there anything else an '11 has that a '12 doesn't? And is that just to vent out the car before you get in on hot days, or is there some other use I'm not thinking of?

Re: 2012 - Finding Lowest Purchase Price

yea, the 2011 Overland comes standard with Quadra Drive II with the ELSD standard if your getting the Hemi and you get to enjoy it a full two months (which is what it takes for your order to get to the dealer). The 2012 will come with Quadra Trac II only, capable but not as capable.

Re: 2012 - Finding Lowest Purchase Price

My order was at the dealer already and I still chose to go with the 2011 because of the Rear ELSD that can route all power to just one wheel with traction...

The Hemi takes 2 months? Not sure how true that is. Mine came in almost half that.

Re: 2012 - Finding Lowest Purchase Price

Well I ordered mine on 6/20 and got to the dealer around 8/7 but never ended up buying it. So in my experience, it is safe to say about 7-8 weeks...

Keep in mind, my car moved through the system fairly quickly...

Re: 2012 - Finding Lowest Purchase Price

well, your mileage may vary...
I orded a hemi with elsd on 8/4/11
It was built on 8/18...which i thought was very quick
The first eta was 8/28/11...again, very quick..especially as they have to ship the car to Southern California
then, for some reason the car was put on hold for 10 days. Yesteryday, it was due this sunday, now its pushed to wednesday. I think it will work out to be about 6 weeks which is really not to bad...but once they put out that 8/28/11 date, its seems like it has taken forever

You have to realize that it's not just $1600 difference. You're paying sales tax on that $1600 and interest over a 72-month loan so the real cost is $1600 plus the sales tax on that plus the interest on that over 72 months. Additionally, you're getting a less capable vehicle for more money. I'm not bagging on the 2012s but there are plenty of people on here that ordered 2012s and ended up purchasing 2011s that met their specs due to things like this. A few others weren't able to find exactly what they wanted in a 2011, so they ordered a 2012. If the 2011 has what you want, get the 2011 and don't look back. Save some coin and enjoy the more capable Jeep. That's my $0.02.

Re: 2012 - Finding Lowest Purchase Price

Differences? If you get a Summit, apparently you get a different steering wheel than you would in 2011!!!

Look, your truck will be worth more in resale value at the end, due to it being one year older, but i would rather get the "savings" now. Assuming the new 6speed is just smoke and mirrors, and you can find what you want, i would snag a 2011 and save yourself 2k...

Heminator was just smarter than me....and he even got a coupon in the mail...

LOL...good point on the steering wheel! Maybe that's a "bonus" to some?

But that's just the 2011 Hemi model that's more capable than the 2012 Hemi, right? These are V6 models I'm looking at so I thought they were equal as far as capability. If not, let me know that could definately sway my decision. At this point I think I'm more concerned with depreciation and resale value.

If depreciation & resale value are important, I'd wait for the 2013 V6, which is reputed to come with the 8-speed now available on full size Dodge & Chrysler 2012 V6s. If that's true, it will cause higher depreciation on 2012 JGC V6s, as compared to the 2011/2012 difference.
