Starscream,

Yes, I'm referring to the less capable V8 2012s as compared to the V8 2011s. If you're getting a V6, the point it mute. However, if you're that concerned with resale value, you might want to look at the V6 compared to the V8 in previous model JGCs to get a good look at that.

So, let me nitpick.
Not really fair to say less capable v8...they simply took one of the options the 4x4 v8 package gave you and pushed it to another option package. But you got that brand "new" 6speed tranny, so its all fair!

That brand "new" 6 speed is just a software update away. I was skeptical when people said that its basically the same 545RFE tranny, but the parts book confirms that all gears are same just revised software, which is basically the same as the late build 5 speeds anyways.

I meant resale value and depreciation between '11s and '12s specifically, as in if you hypothetically bought both today, the '12 is probably worth at least $1600 more if you had to sell them tomorrow.

And I can't wait a year for a '13 (baby on the way in 6 weeks, this is for the wife and baby).

I did, but also looked at average cost to drive each vehicle based on estimated fuel costs per year and multiplied over how long we plan on keeping it, and unfortunately over the 8 years or so we plan on having it, we would pay about $8000 extra in gas just to have the V8.

But since you plan on keeping your new truck 8 years, the difference between resale on 2011 and 2012 should be minimal. Conclusion: buy the one you prefer. Oh, and best wishes on your growing family!

Re: 2012 - Finding Lowest Purchase Price

I keep seeing mention of the '12 being less capable, regarding the lack of the rear ELSD.

If I am getting ORAII, there's no difference between the '11s and '12s in this detail, right?

That's correct. You will get the ELSD with ORAII

Yep then you'll be fine. What I meant by "less capable" is that you can't just buy the V8 and have the ELSD and QDII like with the 2011s. On the 2012s, you're forced to buy the $995 ORAG II package which only cost $275 on the 2011s. And you're paying $200 extra for the HEMI on the 2012s because of the "new" 6-spd. Bottom line it's "less capable" if you just buy the V8 but if you buy the ORAG II you'll have the same capability just for considerably more money.
