Re: 2012 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Cars.overstock.com is another that has worked well with me and it's free. Used it to negotiate $850 under invoice. California caps processing fees at $55 and no other dealership fees are allowed according to the Zag agreement. (tax, title, registration, and government fees are still additional).

That's a cool chart! The maximum steel metallic clear coat looks pretty sweet. I don't see the purple in the winter chill...it looks like a darker version of the now discontinued dark charcoal

Do you have an LCD screen your using with your computer? Maybe angle it a little up and down until the color changes. It's definitely a purple or plum color showing up on my screen. If I tip my screen it turns a very dark gray though, but there's definitely red+blue = plum color in there.

You're right. I can see it better on my iPad. Looks like a darker version of this years blackberry pearl. This one just looks a little less nasty - but still not my thing.

When a color says "available 09/05" does that mean you can order it on that date, it's going to start building on that date, or it will be available on the showroom on that date?

If you have an American Express card, go to http://amexnetwork.zag.com/main.html

Dealers around me are offering pre-negotiated prices of $750-$1500 below invoice (plus a dealership fee of between $80-390, which is laid out up front) for the 2011 Overland, and many are offering the same deal on the 2012 model. Amex isn't the only firm to partner with zag.com - I think a subscription to the special car buying section of consumer reports online also comes with access. I'm sure there are more affiliates.
We solidified the 2012 color (cherry red) today after seeing it in a dealer lot on the 200, so we're ready to move on a 2012. But until 2012 pricing becomes finalized in about a month, it's hard to see how AX or CR can offer guaranteed rock bottom pricing on it.

BTW, for those still looking for saddle right away, that dealer checked and found several loaded new red 2011 Overlands with V6 and saddle within 500 miles, all but one with Garmin radio/nav. They also showed us the same thing in their showroom with a Hemi, mfg date April. Wife prefers the 2011 red over the new cherry, but not enough to spring for one over the 2012.

The date is the first day of production; ordering usually opens up 6-8 weeks ahead of that.

Will the "True Blue" be a similar shade to Blackberry? It's looks close on the color chart.

I'm not exactly sure how the dealership is making their decisions, but the dealer is offering me the same deal relative to invoice on 2012 models as the 2011s. Perhaps they are betting that incentives won't change much and that regardless of zag pricing, it's a decent deal for them. They wouldn't accept affiliate programs in the first place if they weren't able to make any money at those prices (through holdback, incentives, etc.). Another reasonable dealer said that they could order the vehicle with the options I want now and would honor the zag.com price for 2012 when that pricing is released (and that if I wasn't happy with it they would refund my deposit). So, while you are correct that it is difficult to negotiate final numbers at this time (since final pricing isn't released yet), when talking price relative to invoice it seems each dealer decides what kinds of business decisions it will make.

While over the summertime moving current inventory is probably the top priority, if a customer will not take a 2011 from the lot, allowing them to pre-order a 2012 appears to be a low-risk venture for a car dealer. Normally they have to order some amount of inventory based on projections and wait for it to clear, but with a car a motivated buyer is specifically ordering, there is no wait time where they have to float an extra vehicle on the lot. Even if they only make a little money, it comes at little effort or opportunity cost (except perhaps a lost opportunity to clear out inventory from the prior model year). And they still have a chance to make more off you from the trade-in or financing (luckily, neither of which is an consideration for me). On the small chance that you cancel your order, they've only added one more vehicle to their normal inventory order which will sell in due time anyhow (likely at a higher price than informed pre-ordering negotiators like those on this forum would take). Seems like a sensible proposition, but if somebody knows the industry, please feel free to correct me and/or shed some light on the inside scoop regarding dealer pricing.

I'm thinking it's going to look more like Midnight Blue or Patriot BLue, but will have the big 'pearl' flakes instead of being metallic..
