Any idea on when orders will come with the tow hooks?

Re: 2012 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Hello everyone. This is my first post. A lot of great info here. Can anyone confirm whether I can order a 2012 Overland Hemi and delete the 730n radio. I have driven several 2011 models and prefer the Garmin navigation. The Jeep website has a delete option for custom building a 2011 Overland that is supposed to give a $465 credit if you delete the 730n. However, when I try checking the box it does not allow it.

The salesman I am working with is a really nice guy but not at all up to speed on the various options.

I know I could probably accomplish what I want by optioning out a Limited but I am concerned resale will be better with an Overland and you get a little nicer interior (I think).

Thanks in advance.

The 2012 Overlands come standard with the 730n RHR radio and there is no other option at this time. As for the 2011s, the standard radio is the 430n Garmin RHB. The 730n RHR is the $465 radio upgrade on the 2011s. If you want the RHB right now you'll have to find a 2011 Overland. If you want a 2012 with RHB you'll have to buy a Limited like you mentioned since it's standard on that with the RHR being the upgrade. The Overland has real wood vs. the simulated wood on the Limiteds among other things like the leather stitched dash on the Overlands, etc.

Re: 2012 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

You haven't been able to order a Overland with the 430 since, oh, January time frame. You have been forced into the 730 option, which is now standard. The only overlands that came in with a 430 were those dealer orders placed before that time or perhaps fleet orders.

The dealer will have more options available to him via his ordering system than shows up in Jeeps on line build your own system. The dealer system also shows current restrictions. Only when he tries to set up an order will you know what config you can get.

I think it is a marketing thing at the moment, but I dunno. I would think they have the supply problems straightened out by now.

The 730 nav is not all that bad, it does have dead reckoning and you can input a new destination while driving (via voice command that works OK). You must be parked to enter a destination into the Garmin system.

If you want true Garmin function, I'd think you will need a stand alone unit. I notice ProClips is selling a clip on mount custom made for the JGC.

Wow. That sucks you cannot input destination while traveling. I also like how the Garmin shows your speed and the speed limit of the road. I don't thing the 730 does this.

It's not quite true that you need to be parked to input a new destination on the 430N Garmin. You do have to be "stopped" i.e. less than about 2 mph. When stopped at a traffic light, still in Drive, I have made a new destination entry, but you have to be FAST!

Or you can be deaf ... then when the light turns green and you are still inputting, the guy with the horn behind you won't bother you at all!

Actually, if the light turns green and you have to move again, the new destination entry just goes into pause mode, and you can restart it part way through again at the next stop. Obviously, only to be used carefully if traffic conditions allow.

I've always liked how garmin does things.

Re: 2012 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Never saw any answers to my original post on 6/07 so I'm reposting...

"Will there be any minor design tweaks on the front of the vehicle? (Molding, chrome, minor body enhancements) Back of the vehicle? From what I am reading so far there will be no real sheet metal adjustments or minor fabrication changes to plastic trim pieces (2nd year of body style) . The change this year is the re-gearing of the transmission. This question is prefaced on any tooling & die changes that may potentially be done at Jefferson North after a year of seeing how the 2011s came out and reading feedback from Tech service bulletins."

The 6 speed appears to have been somewhat covered.

What I'm interested in are any improvements to the fab process on the assembly line (weld gun application, hardware, trim fitting, metal & plastic tolerances, and corrections to TSBs)

Here goes...
