Those cars have much more markup which allows the dealers to give you what seems to be a good deal and rape the uninformed.

The dealer is not going to give you that car for $40,000 unless it was a demo. Chrysler would buy it back from him for more cash which is typically why about October all the left overs disappear from the lots, dealers don't need to sell at that much of a loss as they get bought back. What they offered you is a pretty good deal. There are exceptions and timing is everything

Re: 2012 JGC Overland Price/What's a good deal?

Thanks for the other replies everyone. I know for a fact this car has been sitting on the lot since Jan/Feb. I will be talking with the sales manager tomorrow, I am hoping to get a little better of a deal 42/43k. Wish me luck!

@ColdCase: I never expected them to give it to me for 40k, it was just a lowball offer so we would finish somewhere in the middle of their first offer and mine. Better to start low than high. It may have been a pretty good deal, but I've heard of better and expect to do better tomorrow. I will keep you all posted.

Thanks again.

If they won't sell at invoice or somewhere close, just go to a competing dealer and talk to the fleet manager ... ask him to locate that exact vehicle and do a dealer trade. Take it from them...

A fleet manager will typically sell at $250 or $500 over invoice...

You can take a printout from Edmunds.com new cars section "True Cost to Own" and rollup the price with all the options... compare with the price the fleet manager gives you.

Its easy ...

Re: 2012 JGC Overland Price/What's a good deal?

I'd shoot for 42. I think 6500 off sticker is very doable depending on the dealer. Signed my deal on Saturday & drove it home. Sticker was 45,015. Found identical one at CarMax (New) listed at 40,329 including dealer fees & incentives. Shopped this price to other dealers in Atlanta & Chattanooga areas by emails. 1 told me he can't touch it. 1 dealer wouldn't respond to emails but had some on thier lot marked $5,500 off MSRP (including 1,000 cash back incentive). I used this to necotiate with another dealer and was able to get salesman to commit to 5500 off by email. I countered with 38,500 plus their dealer fee of 598 and this was as far as negotiations went by email. Showed up at the dealer the next morning and signed the deal for 38,515 plus the dealer fee. Taking the fee in to account - i came out 5900 under MSRP and the negotiations went pretty smooth- I probably could have got another couple hundred bucks but I'd like to remember this as a somewhat painless experience.

Here is one of the Overlands I found marked $5,500 off MSRP- This might could help you negotiate. Its a Summit so not the interior color you are looking for.
