2012 JGC Overland Price/What's a good deal?

Hi Everyone,

I am new here and have joined because I am hoping to buy a 2012 JGC Overland. I have found the exact one I want and am hoping to work out a good deal with my salesman, however they are being kind of smug and I would appreciate some feedback as to what everyone here believes would be a good price on a fully loaded Overland.

The car is Black with Light Frost Beige interior and comes with all the great standard features plus all the options available on this model (or so I'm told). It's MSRP is $48,305 and the dealership has given me the price of $44,770. Now I've purchased cars in the past where I have been able to get great deals, including a deal I made on a brand new Cadillac that I was able to get 7k off of list price. I feel the dealership can do better, especially since it's end of month, end of quarter and the 2013 will be out soon and the 2014 shortly after in early 2013. Any advice is welcome, you all have a great forum going here and I hope to be a part of it real soon. Thanks!

Here is a snapshot of part of the window sticker which shows the options that are on this Overland.

Customer Preferred Package 24P
Advanced Warning and Adaptive Cruise $1,295

Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Cross Path

Adaptive Speed Control

I paid 40,300 for my 12 with everything but the V8. I think you could get them to the high 42's- real low 43's.

Mine was equipped differently than yours so not sure how much this helps, but I paid $40,000 + tax title license for my 2012 Overland V6 with saddle interior and adaptive cruise package.

Re: 2012 JGC Overland Price/What's a good deal?

My 2012 Overland, White w/Black interior, V8, with advance warning/adaptive cruise had a msrp of $47,310. I paid dealer invoice ($44,358) minus dealer holdback ($1,395) minus Jeep rebate ($1,000) for a total of $41,963 plus TT&L. Like the above post stated, with the 2013's coming out real soon, and even though the one you are interested in has the Chrome Edition Group, you should still get it for what I paid plus TT&L. Good luck.

Thats right, if they wont negotiate on the price, tell them sorry that wont do and just walk out. I just bought a 12' Laredo last week and i did the same thing, told them what i wanted and if they didn't do it, then i was walking out, the jeep was $32k and i ended up talking them down to $28k with my trade plus they install a trailer hitch and my payment reduced by $70. Most of these dealers are hurting since nobody is hardly buying and great deals can be had if you shop around and see which one bites at your offer. good luck.

Re: 2012 JGC Overland Price/What's a good deal?

If you rather do some homework instead of demanding the invoice, you can go to edmunds.com and perhaps KBB and get a pretty good idea of the dealer invoice. Jeep dealers often sell at or close to invoice because there is holdback (Chrysler gives them ~$1400 I think quarterly if they are good boys).

Does the figure the dealer gave include all rebates? If not, then it sounds close to invoice which is a pretty good deal coming cold off the street. If you can find an equivalent model, color don't care, at a competing dealer you can suggest/leverage that you are trying to decide where the best deal is. Otherwise, if its the vehicle you want, well its only money .

Re: 2012 JGC Overland Price/What's a good deal?

Hey everyone, Thanks for the replies!

I have seen the invoice, which is 45k. I offered the dealer 40k, I know, lowball, but better to go in low, work up and finish somewhere in closer to that than closer to their price. I'd love to go to another dealer, but unfortunately no other dealers in my area have the exact vehicle I want.

@BobsWK2: The price you paid for your vehicle is the price I am looking for. When the salesman ask if I wanted the running boards and I replied yes, why? He said, "well I could always take them off to get closer to your price." Can you believe that?! How did you get your dealer to take off the holdback?

@gc4x4: Already walked out man, last night. They wouldn't budge from $44,770, except for a few hundred dollars. I know These are great cars, but come on, they can do better than that. I have bought a Cadillac, Volvo, and Jaguar before and haven't had this much trouble.

@ColdCase: You are right, it is only money! Just trying to decide if it is better in my pocket, or theirs.

Again, thanks every body for the great feedback. I'll keep you all updated.

@BobsWK2: Also, would you mind sharing what dealership you purchased your Overland from?

At first, the dealer gave me the invoice price. I said let me go home and think about it. As I got outside, the sales manager came out and said they could sell me the car for invoice minus the holdback. I still left and went home to consider the deal. The next day I went back and placed the order and when my GC arrived less than a month later, Jeep was giving a $1,000 rebate on top of the deal. Now I did happen to order the vehicle near the end of the month, so the dealer probably gave up their holdback because they were probably getting some kind of bonus from Jeep for selling over their quota for the month. But I would think on a vehicle sitting on the lot, the dealer would like to sell it before it eats up his holdback money.

Re: 2012 JGC Overland Price/What's a good deal?

Usually a dealer won't give up the holdback. If they will sell it to you for 44700 and invoice is 45 that's a good price. Dealers are not hurting right now sales have been pretty good. You really need to be reasonable, if a dealer sells below invoice and then gives up the holdback there is no profit. The only way this will happen is if the manufacture is giving an incentive to meet a sales target otherwise forget it. I would take the price just below invoice and be happy.

That may be a regional thing ... of the 2012's I was looking at (specifically Stone White, V6, Limited, Lightfrost beige/black, 20" wheels and Luxury Package), they would sell by the time the weekend rolled around. The day I purchased mine, they had four Grand Cherokee's lined up they had sold that day alone.
