2012 Overland radio dead

Hi, I started my Jeep tonight and the radio and nav screen is completely black with no sound at all. The backup camera still works and shows on the screen and the unit powers open for CD's but nothing else works.
Any ideas on this? Of course I'm leaving on a trip on Friday and was really counting on having the nav assist.

Re: 2012 Overland radio dead

Try disconnecting the negative from the battery for 10 minutes. Maybe that will fix it.

Re: 2012 Overland radio dead

Thanks I'll try the disconnect tomorrow. Nothing shows on the screen at all except the backup camera image. It had not given me any problems before this and was working when I shut the Jeep off when I got home from work.

Re: 2012 Overland radio dead

Started up the Jeep this morning and the screen was working again. It seemed to take awhile to acquire a sat signal but all is working again.

Did you do the disconnect or it just started working again.

Re: 2012 Overland radio dead

The nav on my old 2011 acted stupid once, on the way home from vacation. Had to pull over turn off the car and wait about 30 minutes before it started working again. Point is, it happens sometimes and doesn't mean something is wrong. If it happens with any regularity then id get it looked at. Otherwise you're good.

No I didn't have to do the disconnect. The Jeep sat for twelve hours at work and when I started it the screen lit up again. I have a long trip to do this weekend so I'm hoping it was just a one time glitch. I was really not looking forward to a four hour drive without music or navigation when I got there.

Re: 2012 Overland radio dead

Sometimes these systems get into a "bit bucket" situation that just needs time to clear. I've had it happen while traveling a few times and the solution was to turn off the vehicle at the next "rest stop" for 15 or more minutes so that there was a true shutdown. Sometimes, it would be the backup camera frozen to "on". Sometimes it would be a freeze such that I could continue to listen to whatever I was listening to via Bluetooth, but couldn't change the volume or return to the NAV display. (incoming calls still answerable) Etc. And yes, I keep my 730N on the most current firmware release. Letting it "sleep" for a long enough period of time has always cleared the glitch. These things are computers and, well...we know how that works...err...you know what I mean.
