1. Use aluminum painted gloss black for interior Applique. I've mentioned this before a couple of times.

2. HIDs and turn signal indicators should be standard.

3. Lux II should be an available option: Nappa leather, power liftgate, heated steering wheel and cooled seats. Or a different Lux package that includes everything in Lux II, call it Lux III and that would include a black leather dash with platinum stitching (or black stitching).

4. Grille inserts brilliant black on the brilliant black vehicle and gloss black on the other colors, instead of the platinum chrome. Or just the black insert like the Overland has.

5. Overland wheels as an option, not painted black either.
+1 on EVERYTHING ABOVE!

I think you really nailed it with those aesthetic changes as well as the options.

And if they are really going to offer a special edition, I feel they need to make it available with higher trim levels or options. I understand they want to keep it affordable, but to solve that they could offer two levels. The Black Edition (based on the Laredo X as pictured) and the Black Edition Premium (which is either based on a higher trim level or the Laredo X but with extended options).

I have always thought that Jeep needs to offer a "street" version of the WK2. Something that is geared towards those who would normally mod these trucks for a street look, but who can't or won't go all out on a SRT8.

Give me this thing with the 5.7 Hemi and the aethetic changes and options above and I am 100% sold.

JEEP ARE YOU LISTENING?!?

I think thats an extremely small niche market...

I like the ideas of the changes posted above too, but remember this is supposed to be a quick, low cost appearance package...like the 70th Anniv. model. Anyways...you can do the things you mention to an Overland pretty easily on your own...

I disagree with it being an small niche market. I think this street model will be quite popular. I for one can't stand all the chrome they put on the new jeeps. It's much better to buy a vehicle from the factory the way you like than having to mod the hell out of it to get it how you want it. Iam happy they are offering it with both looks. The more options the better.

But you have to understand if they build it...the profit has to be there.

The "street model" (which doesn't exist, by the way. This black edition is not meant to be a "street model") would go against Jeep's brand marketing campaign. You have a vehicle in the Dodge line that is meant to be more "street" oriented...and they have the SRT Jeep.

I just wouldn't hold my breath.

this production intended model is geared towards the street crowd. I would assume that Ralph Gilles has flexed his design muscle and influenced the model....

I agree that it may be a smaller market than the "normal" Jeep crowd, but I do think it would attract more buyers who might not have considered a Grand Cherokee before and for who the SRT8 is simply out of reach or too over the top.

Going on your logic, I would just think it would make more sense to offer this "Black Edition" appearance package on more than just the Laredo X, because in my mind that makes the niche market even smaller. You are eliminating buyers who want this type of look, but also want the options and luxuries offered in the higher trim models.

I think Jeep is assuming that the buyers of this type of model are younger and maybe have less income, and maybe that is why they are offering it on a lower model such as the Laredo X. But in my mind they are stereotyping and could be eliminating other potentional buyers.

And you are right that its pretty easy to get a similar look by modding on your own, but if I can get a head start by buying something from the factory that has the look and theme I am after, then by all means I am all in.

I guess we will have to wait and see what the final production offering is.

One final thought - I would love if Jeep went a step further with this Black Edition and developed it into more of a "Sport" model. Again something in between a standard Grand Cherokee and the SRT8, ie: a tweaked suspension and maybe even a full appearance package. I just bought my wife a 2012 Durango R/T and Dodge did a hell of a job transforming it into a very different vehicle than the standard models with just a few tweaks here and there. I know there is even less of a market for this, but just putting it out there.

But you have to realize this is not a company that needs to be all things to all people. Chrysler already has a brand they are gearing towards that...Dodge. If you create something from Jeep that appeals to that buyer, you cannibalize sales from one side and give to the other...something Chrysler and GM have done for years and are just learning now they don't have to do.

But then now you have 8 trim levels instead of 4 and it gets much more complicated to build them. What they are trying to do is follow the Japanese model...keep it simple.

But see, you're always "eliminating potential buyers". You can't sell a vehicle in 500 different configurations and be successful.

They chose the Laredo X because thats the volume model.

SW03ES you have valid points all around. On a big picture scale I understand where you are coming from. But of course enthusiasts like us are always going to be a little biased and hope for even more

Thanks man, it's pretty difficult to tell from the pictures but it looks like they are the chrome roof rails? BTW, good to hear your brakes work well!
