The 4runners have extremely high reliability and well-made. Did you ever think about going to a Jeep after owning the 4runner in terms of reliability? I'm in a similar situation to yours. Since this is just a refresh, there shouldn't be too many issues when the '14 comes out.

Re: 2013 Altitude or wait for 2014 models?

Yeah the 4runner is built solid. My desire for the jeep isn't based on reliability to be honest, not to assert that there's reliability issues with Jeep though. For me it's a combination of vanity and value. I really like the look of the Jeep GC...nice balance of ruggedness and luxury, and you get a lot for your money.

If I were to buy based on reliability alone, I'd blindly side with the 4runner because, as I've noted, it's done me well and has a slightly better warranty. But if you want true value and reliability, a Hyundai is the way to go. Cheap and you get an amazing warranty. But like the Hyundai sales guy even said...you have to get over the whole "Hyundai" thing first. No disrespect to Hyundai owners...wife back in the day had one.

Here's a pick of my 4runner

I do expect the price to go up by a few thousand bucks for all the "upgrades".
There is no chance what so ever that the price will increase anymore than 500 dollars or so.

Re: 2013 Altitude or wait for 2014 models?

That was what the 2012 to 2013 price hike was with essentially NO additions.

The reality is, Jeep already has their competition undercut on price by like $15k. They know this, and so they could jack the price up by $5k and STILL be undercutting their competition.

You guys can live in the land of delusion where larger screens and brand new transmissions licensed from outside companies with more moving parts don't cost more, but the reality is, they do and they're going to pass the cost on to consumers. Don't forget the fact that the UAW guys are also demanding more money.

Re: 2013 Altitude or wait for 2014 models?

I just bought the 2012 JGC Altitude in White. We scoured all of southern CA. for it. were 3 in that color at the time. they are rare. I love that about it. Got it in downey at champion dodge. we live in Aliso. v8 4x4 with everything. I am yet to see one like ours on the road. when we were looking tons of black on black, but thats so 6 years ago. they should do a flat black and a flat white for 2014. any way crappy gas mileage but good power. I chipped it and did a volant air intake right away. so the debate, if they make an altitude diesel 8 speed I would wait. if not don't hesitate

Hey Evan, when you say you just bought one, how recent? I wonder if you got the white one I was considering lol.

Separate question, do you reside in Cali? Reason I ask is will the intake you put on pass smog? Is it CARB certified?

I thought the Altitude Edition was just on the 2012.

They are continuing the Altitude on the 2013 also?

Re: 2013 Altitude or wait for 2014 models?

I think you did REAL well on the price of the alltitude. I was also wondering if I should wait until the 2014 models roll out but decided to order the 2013 now because I have a baby on the way. Plus, I'm a firm believer in you never want to own the first batch of anything. Could be a few kinks here and there. Personally, I think 37k for an alltitude is enough to say get that. I paid just a shade under that for 2013 laredo x but mine is the v6. So to get the hemi for that price (if you need a hemi), pull the trigger.

Damn, here in Ontario Canada prices are insane- expect to pay at or more than $50 large for a fully loaded Jeep GC, even with our dollar riding high right now, damn....

Ah man you just threw a wrench into my thinking . Yeah I think it's a smoking deal. It's pretty much fully loaded. Only thing it doesn't have, that I preferred, was the panoramic sunroof. Otherwise it's got everything. Although I actually didn't want the 4x4 but I'm not opposed to it either.

Re: 2013 Altitude or wait for 2014 models?

I would go on ahead with the deal, because right around the corner from the 2014 there will be something even better for the 15, then 16. The Altitudes are sharp especially the white, silver, and maximum steel ones. Only way I would hold off is if we knew for certain that the S-Limited is coming to North America, but no one foresees that happening. That 37k is a great deal i would go on ahead with it. Altitudes are sharp!
