take the deal! lol. Especially if its white. The white on black is awesome color combo, and rare.

Re: 2013 Altitude or wait for 2014 models?

Funny thing happened today. While I've been vacillating between buying the '13 or waiting for the '14 models, I decided to test drive some BMW coupes -- another option I considered was to keep my 4runner and get a car instead...but wife it's keen on having 3 cars. Anyway during the test drive I was stopped at a light when a silver Altitude passed in front of us. Having never seen an Altitude in the wild my daughter and I marveled at its beauty. I was really impressed...looked damn sharp. At that moment I figured it was too much of a coincidence, and that the Jeep gods were trying to communicate with me. Ha.

I feel bad for momentarily cheating on my soon-to-be Altitude. I promise never to be bad again.

Hahaha. Good choice. Never question the will of the car gods.

LOL The car gods made your choice... so are you still going with a white Altitude or a silver one.. both of them are fine looking specimens.

I'm going with the white w/ V8. It's headed to another dealer so it'll be a few days to get rerouted to the dealer I worked out the deal with. I could have it this week some time, provided it doesn't get snatched up during its short stint at the other dealership. /crosses fingers.

I saw a white Altitude driving around when I stopped for gas a few days ago. First I've seen a white one in the wild. I almost got whiplash snapping my head around staring at it. I love these Altitudes.

Re: 2013 Altitude or wait for 2014 models?

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone for chiming in. I'm new to Jeep so leveraging the collective knowledge of enthusiasts has been helpful. Having my 4runner for so long kind of feels like dating again after being married forever... "I don't know what to do what my hands" (hint: Anchor Man).

For anyone on the fence, what help cement the deal on the '13 for me was:
- great price on a soon-to-be older model
- It's not forever. If the newer '14 is that amazing, I could always sell at some point and upgrade. That way too you avoid buying the first rev of the newer model.
- lease maybe? I don't think I'll lease but it's an option.

Tip, be sure to haggle online and over the phone. Go to dealer websites and inquire using their "contact me" forms. Then pit the dealers against each other. I still haven't been to a dealership yet, but have been in contact with at least 4.

Re: 2013 Altitude or wait for 2014 models?

Jey JD that is great advice i didnt use the internet form but i did haggle over the phone. I went to my local dealer and started with them, then went to the local Kia dealer and got a quote on my trade in. Called in to my local dealer told them what they said and they upped my trade in to match the Kia dealers. Well I told my local dealer they had one shot to get my payment where I wanted it and they fell through. Called up another Jeep dealer about 50 miles away they matched my trade and beat the price of my local Jeep dealer. I ended up with a 38000 Laredo for 30500. I know its not an Overland or limited but i'm happy with it and proud of my deal.

I believe there's a couple of rebates already built into the "MSRP", at least according to the website. Hopefully you did get some rebates...maybe just unbeknownst. I only noticed this because I couldn't match the MSRP from the vehicle sticker with the "build it" price on Jeep.com -- Jeep.com was cheaper. It wasn't until I read the price breakdown (fine print) of the jeep.com price that I saw they factored in two $1,000 rebates. The vehicle sticker will obviously be fully loaded.

Yeah I don't think I'll every negotiate in person again. Too much of a time sponge, plus you're dealing with information asymmetry -- the dealer has perfect information where you need to recall facts from your research. Not to mention the pressure they apply to you in person. Hardly a fair fight. Plus if they throw you a curve ball, say introduce a new vehicle or additional features, you won't be prepared.

I negotiate for a living....and while there are a ton tactics you can employ, none are better than capitalism. Keep the dealers honest by getting multiple quotes from different dealers, and don't be afraid to tell them what you've been quoted from others -- even stretch it a bit. It helps establish your credibility too since you know what you're talking about.

If you're looking for used cars same rules apply. Go to autorader and when you find a car you like, use the inquiry form on that page to submit your information. All dealers have "internet sales" people who are very responsive. After submitting a request I'd generally hear back within the hour. From there I'd throw out low ball offers to try and figure out the best price for that particular vehicle.
