I had a completely different dealer experience. We bought ours on a cold day in February. The dealer told me he had gotten a 2014 exactly what we were looking for on a dealer trade.

He also told me, as i have delt with him for years, that when my wife, who the JGC is for, saw the vehicle that my wallet would be liberated!

Well, like I said it was cold and blustery, and we arrived at the dealer and the Jeep was in the middle of the showroom floor. He had their expert, a very nice sales lady help my wife and literally spent 1.5 hours with her on the electronics while we BS'd. Needless to say we walked out with a deal.

Amazing sales job and service.

Re: 2013 BMW X5 vs 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Here is my Two cent... being the owner of german cars strictly prior to this jeep..

One of the earlier posters is right about the subtle differences.

But I don't see how people how people say "oh the buttons are plastic" if you have ever owned a German car out of warranty you will be glad for those plastic buttons.

There is nothing cool about have a 7 series BMW with peeling buttons or an ML with sticky buttons.

Soft touch button are more trouble than they are worth

Re: 2013 BMW X5 vs 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

At least in the PNW, a 2011 X5 35i, premium trim are going for $45Kish. The one at the local dealer has about 20K miles, but doesn't have Nav and they are asking 45K. Although I did like the vehicle quite a bit, it's hard putting down that money for a vehicle that has been around since 2007.

I'm talking about service, not sales. If you are used to the nice dealerships, treats (fresh cookies and gourmet coffee), being treated like a king, free loaner cars, swanky indoor service greeting areas with soft music playing, flat screen TVs in intimate waiting rooms with stone and gas fireplaces, putting and virtual driving ranges, stores with high end apparel, pens, purses, sunglasses, golf bags, etc...having the Jeep serviced is going to be a rude awakening.

At Jeep its, give them the car and wait on the plastic chair until its done an hour after we said it would be...or walk home. You can get good service from Jeep, but it is not an upscale experience as it is at Lexus, BMW, Mercedes, Audi, etc.

Interesting tidbit on the switches I read somewhere: It seems that a lot of faces of the soft switches were "dissolving" or loosing their icons/lettering. To make a long story short, it was determined that the oils and cremes that women use on their hands was interacting with the finishing on the switches and slowing softening them up so they peel. My wifes Lexus has this problem bigtime

There are also a lot of BMW dealers that other than giving a loaner car, in my case, I had a 2010 M3 Coupe and all I ever got was a base 3 series car loaner, but still better than nothing, that's all they give. Well they do have a water fountain with a waiting area with some old worn out leather chairs and a flat screen tv. Big deal. My Jeep dealer has that also. But they don't have loaner cars. But that's ok with me since they saved me 20K on a comparably equipped X5 vs my Summit. Also at least at Jeep dealers when you need a part, I can usually get them to give at least 25% off. Try that at a BMW dealer and I think it must be easier to extract impacted wisdom teeth than to get even 10% off. And many times the parts have to come from Germany, so you're lucky if they get the part in a week.

Well you have a point there. Ive never been treated like a king at any dealer but I've never owned a BMW Mercedes or the like.

But, I do know this, when my Jeep dealer says something needs to be fixed, it really does. He's not looking to sell me $1000 worth of work.

Im not sure thats true of all jeep dealers. But I and many others have this confidence in our Jeep dealer.

Re: 2013 BMW X5 vs 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

My opinion (key word opinion. yours will vary, which is a good thing!):

You pay for that swanky service with higher service prices. I'd rather save the money with a cheaper to service Jeep and buy my own cookies and lattes. I'm there to get my vehicle serviced, not be entertained.

Some are ok paying extra for the swanky extras. I however, am not!

Re: 2013 BMW X5 vs 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I've owned high end German and Japanese cars the past 15 years. The 'niceness' of the dealership sales and service departments varied but all were much nicer than my Jeep dealership. As for the service managers and techs I find my Jeep guys are as good or better than the others and that's what really matters to me. I avoid the dowdy service waiting area by dropping off the truck the night before my appointment and picking it up when it's ready. The dealership is 3 miles from my house which was one of the reasons I went with the Jeep.

Agreed! Having owned a Lexus prior to my Jeep there is a big difference when it comes to service. I love my Jeep but they need to work on the service after the sale.

I've never owned a BMW, so I can't speak to any of that but the BMW dealers here are brand new and quite impressive. Also remember, BMW provides all service for free for the first 50k miles. As for loaners, some people complain about getting an entry level car, but who cares? Its still a BMW/Lexus/Mercedes whatever. I'd love it if Jeep gave me a 15 year old Neon...something at least!

I'm not saying one method is better than the other, I'm just saying that if you are accustomed to that level of service, you are going to be disappointed in the level of service your Chrysler/Jeep dealer gives you because its not a luxury brand. Similar to servicing a Toyota, or Ford, or Chevy etc.

I understand that, and thus am not disappointed. The only thing that bugs me is the loaner car. I'm a busy guy, theres always some little annoying thing wrong with the Jeep, and whenever its in for service its there for a couple days getting it sorted out, and its annoying not to have a car for one of us to drive. Yeah I could rent one, but thats another layer of inconvenience.

I find myself living with issues just because I don't want to have to live without the vehicle for 2-3 days. I'd be elated if Jeep would give me a Dodge Dart...or at least have the ability to rent me one at my own cost right there so I only have to make one stop.

Absolutely you pay in the cost of the vehicle and the cost of the service, and again my point was not to say that the service is subpar at Jeep, just to highlight the differences so people won't be disappointed. The service at Jeep is similar to service at Toyota, or Honda, or Ford, or Chevy. Its like anything else, if you are used to shopping at Nordstrom, Kohl's sucks...if you're used to staying at the Ritz, the Holiday Inn sucks. Nothing wrong with Kohls or the Holiday Inn, they just aren't Nordstrom or the Ritz.

I personally only use the Lexus dealer for warranty work and have an independent that does the maintenance. However, I have found there is always some sort of warranty issue on the Jeep so I spend a lot more time at the Jeep dealer than I would have to at the Lexus dealer.
