re: 2013 or 2014 WK?

Thanks. On the door thing....I was gassing up my wife's forester on a windy day and one of the above mentioned doucebags in the car to our left let a gust rip the passenger door out of her hand as she got out. Smack! right into the Subby. It had a strip so the damage was minimal, but I'm just sayin'....They're out there. My wife didn't care. As long as it goes when she puts it in D, she's happy. It must be nice.

I looked at the Black Forest green but felt it looked more black in person than the picture and looked only marginally green in the light

So I opted for the true blue

I have the V8 and even in ECO mode, it still performs very well. But that's probably due to all the torque the V8 has over the V6 so drivability would be better.

I can't really comment on the ext color, but I have the black int and it gets dusty rather fast. I tend to have to wipe it down twice a month.

As far as the 13 vs 14, I would only get the 14 for the tech package, but it seems you want it to be a little more simple, so a 13 may be better for you. The thing about this new tech package is that it shouldn't take all that long to get used to it. You still are going to need to get used to the 13s.

If I was in your shoes, I would most likely get a 14 unless I got a hell of a deal on the 13.

There is a thread recently that people were able to purchase the chrome Grand Cherokee strip for the doors.. So that might be an option if you want

re: 2013 or 2014 WK?

We test drove a 2013 before we bought our 2014...The 8.4 uconnect and the 8 speed tranny were the two things that made me want the 2014. Both had the Hemi but the mpgs were better and it felt seamless with the 8 speed, it just felt better in every range of the rpms. I also agree that the looks of the 14 are improved over the 13.

Re: 2013 or 2014 WK?

I had a choice and went with a 2013 purely on the financial aspect and my fear of first-year redesigns. We really got a great deal on a loaded Limited Hemi - luxury II package, towing added, other extras, 100K warranty negotiated in, etc and I would have been a crazy fool to not take it. It was a very nice upgrade from our 2010 Limited, which they gave us a nice trade-in price for. I had a VERY bad experience once with buying a first-year redesign. It was not a Jeep or other Chrysler vehicle, but still - we had nothing but trouble. I know that's not always the case and it sounds like the 2014 GCs are doing great, but my past experience was enough to make me take the stance that I would never buy another first-year redesign of any vehicle ever again. We took the same approach with the 2010 when we bought it....chose to do that over picking up a new 2011 at the time, because of the "first year" concern, and more-so because the price was just too good to pass up. Out of all the changes they made on the 2014, the only one that really caught my eye was the instrument panel, which I think is very nice but not a deal breaker, since I'm not looking at it much when I drive (ask the cops that pull me over). In the end, I got a new vehicle which was an upgrade from what I had. I don't have to worry about spending lots of $ on it should something go wrong for the first 100K miles, and it was within my financial means. For me, that's a blessing. To each his own though. If you've been blessed with the means to do it, get the one you want that best fits your situation.

Re: 2013 or 2014 WK?

congrats nhMike - sounds like a good choice. That is exactly what I was going to do but the 8 speed and better mpg caught my eye and I wanted to treat myself to my upcoming 60th OR I would have done just that - buying a 2013 with a much better price as the new models came out. I almost went with the Hemi but likely too much vehicle for me. I ordered mine Feb 13th and it has been sitting in D status - pre-release so perhaps that is good while they ensure all the bugs are out of the system. All the best

Re: 2013 or 2014 WK?

It looks like in the $30ks the only real difference is the 8 speed, you have to get past $45k before the major differences appear and the diesel becomes available.

Since my instruments/entertainment is already better than anything the '14s offer (and with more flexibility) if what you want is essentially a Laredo then you are better off with the '13 if well under $30k.

Anyone know why on a '14 if you get the towing package (not available on Laredo), you lose the ECO mode ?

ps turns out the V6 only gains about a 5% mpg improvement (EPA) with the 8 speed. Would need to use a lot of gas to break even.
