That's the first I've heard of that happening with this patch.

For what it's worth, my update went fine and the system works exactly the way it's intended.

I have a raised portion of floor in my garage that basically prevents you from crashing into the wall and I tested the system with my front wheels against it.

The only thing I don't like is how the auto-park works when you press the on/off button when you're not in Park. Instead of going to "off", it shuts down the engine and goes to Acc. I'd rather it go straight to off.

I shot a couple videos of how it works that I'll try to remember to post when I get home later.

Its highly unlikely there was a virus in the software. It sounds like the Tech screwed up and used a virus as an excuse.

I've had the update done without having any issues. This update is a no brainer. Are we all pretty competent people and able to shift our cars into the proper gear? Yes but if there is even a .0000000001 chance that I could make this mistake and have the truck run over my 4 year old niece then in my mind its worth it.

Re: 2014 - 15 Shifter Recall - Update

I agree that the chance of a fubar is highly unlikely, or I wouldn't have scheduled the fix. I haven't seen more than a couple of issues out of what is probably hundreds of thousands of recalls.

I totally agree it's not a virus. It's a total FU applying the 3hrs of patches.
It's also not the first time I heard of it on this forum.

Chances are it will go fine. But I'd personally skip it especially where I like the way it is. I like to back up when dealing with trailers with the door open sometimes. In fact I did it just today. With new shifter

I spoke to the service tech and there is a way to disable it via a switch located inside the center console(have to take apart the console).

That is for forcing transmission into Neutral for Towing with a Dead Battery. Which will still work after the recall as it does before.

I'd be very surprised that switch suddenly "just" disables the Recall (auto park).

Also when early adopters got the recall and it bricked it was a couple day delay for the part. My guess is they bricked so many, now the part is on back order.

I wonder how many? I'm sure there were some, but I've only seen it discussed on this, and other Jeep forums a handful of times. Maybe this thread is too old to get the attention of those whose vehicles have had this problem, but it would be interesting to see some feedback.

I have no idea how many fail.

But there were over 1 million recalled.
I suspect if it is user error involved with bricking they may be better at it by now.

Re: 2014 - 15 Shifter Recall - Update

Not sure how many updates fail, but service manager told me he might need my car whole day and overnight, just in case. The 'just in case' referred to the fact that a couple of hours into the update, there could be a glitch forcing them to restart the whole process. I got a loaner (Challenger) and it turned out be all done in under three hours anyways.

Maybe the issues mentioned earlier in this thread was a 'glitch' that wasn't properly restarted from scratch(?)

You can still do that with the update.

Re: 2014 - 15 Shifter Recall - Update

So here's a video I shot showing the way the system shifts to park.

First, I show opening the door with the vehicle in drive, the seat belt buckled and my foot on the brake. Opening the door displays a warning that the vehicle is not in park. Unbuckling the seat continues to display the warning without shifting into park. Finally, when I take my foot off the brake, the vehicle auto parks.

I did the test again, but instead, opened the door, took my foot off the brake, but left the seat belt buckled. The system displayed the same warning but did not shift to park.

I did the test again, but reversed the steps, taking my foot off the brake first. At that point, the system auto parked after unbuckling the seat belt.

Did you purposely put on socks that matched your car paint?
