Absolutely it will. Just leave the seat belt buckled. The end of the video shows that. I had the door open, the vehicle was in gear and my foot was off the brake but it did not go into park because the seat belt was fastened.

If any one of the following is true, the vehicle will not go into park automatically:

- Door closed
- Foot on brake
or
- Seat belt fastened.

The socks are orange and yellow. The Jeep is red.

At any rate, I have a lot of socks of various colors and designs. It's like my own stealth rebellion against dress codes.

Do we really have the choice to not get the update? If I bring in my Jeep for something unrelated, will they perform the shifter update even if I don't want them to?

It depends on the dealer.

I'm still not clear why people are so opposed to this though.

I'll take any little bit of change in my behavior over the liability hit should my vehicle run into or over someone, whether it's my fault or not or if someone else is driving at the time.

If you need to open the door or even exit the vehicle with it in gear, just leave the seat belt buckled.

Most probably they will. At this point I can not image a dealership allowing you to opt out given Jeep's liability (and bad P.R.) exposure - they may claim it is a safety concern and hold your Jeep hostage until it is done.

Some service departments do, some don't.
Ask them before you hand over the keys, and if you don't like the answer, look for another service department.

You bring up a good point.

Should someone not in the habit of using the parking brake leave their vehicle and it were to injure someone, this might come up if either the victim or the offenders insurance company were to check the VIN against recalls.

And the big issue is if someone is hurt and they can prove you INTENTIONALLY didn't have the safety recall done / REFUSED to allow it to be done, Jeep would be off the hook and you (and possibly the co-conspirator dealership) would be on the hook for damages. Not a good risk to have hanging out there in my book as even other insurance you may have might find a reason not to provide coverage. In today's legal climate, just have it done and sleep well.

Without exception, no person or business has the legal right to perform any task on your vehicle without your explicit authorization. But, obviously, they will do this recall regardless for all the right reasons mentioned here unless u micro manage it.

'buggered' is what happens to new prison inmates.

All in god fun. Australia is great. The only country to have fought side by side with the US in every major conflict in the last 100 years (including Viet Nam and Iraq), the only other country to still love V8's, and an solid immigration policy.

I post this picture in honor of you...
