I use to notice a small lag when starting out in Eco mode but now have a K&N CAI and the lag is gone.

Re: 2014 5.7 Throttle Lag

Hi All

new member here, just got a 2014 GC summit. this is the fourth GC i have owned since the hemi started to be an option, and on ALL of them, I have had some throttle lag. once it goes, it goes, but I always figured this was a function of the programming, not an inherent engine problem. same engine on my 300 was instantaneous.
best way to get around this is switch to sport mode, and apply a gentle even pressure on the gas to the floor, not stab it.

I have been mean to mine since I bought it, under the pretense that its brand new, and if its going to break i want it to break NOW and find the weak links... Mine has been nothing short of a straight beast. Im not feeling any lag, even on eco mode, and it has enough power to keep me happy.

My other car is a 2002 WS6 garage queen. It has a mechanical TB, i think I would notice if there was significant lag. My previous jeep was an 01 with a 4.slow. Now that had lag, sure it would "rev", but it wouldn't get out of its own way.

Re: 2014 5.7 Throttle Lag

Try using those paddle shifters on your steering wheel I wish I had. When I want quick acceleration off the line with my 5 speed Hemi I drop it to first and go. It will go to around 60 mph in 1st with the 5 speed. Don't know about your transmission. I use mine like a Power-Glide transmission, 1st and 2nd. If you forget to shift and get to red line the engine will dog rather than blow.

Re: 2014 5.7 Throttle Lag

I noticed a lag when starting from a stop and just assumed it was built in to the program due to the torque going through all four wheels and Jeep wants hard parts to stay in one piece? That said I dont like it!!! Mine also doesnt like to run all the way up to red line Jeep claims the hemi will do, even in sport with the paddle shifters! Could my tach be 500 rpm off on the top end?? I know its not a race car but I got a hemi for a reason and its kinda frustrating!!!!

If you know you are pulling out in iffy conditions, slap the shifter to go to sport mode.
Even better, put your foot on the brakes to hold the vehicle and run the engine up with the gas pedal---do this a few seconds before you want to move. Floorboarding it with a bit of brake also seems to help it move out faster.

... in some areas, not pulling out in iffy conditions is just asking for a redesign of the
back liftgate, bumper, etc.

Re: 2014 5.7 Throttle Lag

Guys/Gals, you don't have to put up with throttle lag on your hemi. Check out some of the threads for hemifevertuning. Incredible difference.

Re: 2014 5.7 Throttle Lag

Hey pchamp, did you ever find a solution to this? I have a 2014 GC with the 3.6 V6 with the exact same issue -- a second or so lag off idle, but then once it gets going it's fine.

I'm thinking it needs the ECM software adjusted. Just not sure if the dealer will fix it or I have to go aftermarket tuner....
