Re: 2014 Canadian Pricing for Grand Cherokee

Both dealers here have 2 Laredo in stock. They have mostly Limited's and maybe one Overland and Summit.

Yeah, Limited's and Overland/Summit seem to be the ones I see. I guess at this price point, most people go for the higher end units.

But Chrysler isn't the only one. If you check for example Ford Explorer, the limited model base price is about $10k higher in Canada.

Don't think importing is that easy. I bet they would make you jump through quite a few hoops so in the end the cost would be similar. Anybody here who has experience with importing a brand new vehicle from US?

Thankfully I only have to pay 5% tax here in Alberta.
It's virtually impossible as a Canadian to purchase a brand new vehicle directly from a US dealer unless you have a friend in the US who can buy it/then sell it to you, or if you have a US home where you can register your new car. In fact, many car manufacturers forbid their dealers from selling new cars directly to Canadians (under threat of losing their dealerships). If not mistaken, I believe that Infiniti may be one of the last manufacturers that allow new US cars to be sold to Canadians.

Still there is no explanation why Canadians are being ripped off. Domestic car companies arent the only culprits, the Germans (BMW, MB, Audi) have even bigger spreads between Cdn and US MSRP.

The biggest joke are vehicles made in Ontario (Ford's in Oakville, GM's in Oshawa, Chrysler's in Brampton and Windsor, Hondas in Alliston, Toyotas/Lexus in Cambridge) have cheaper shipping to Hawaii than they do to their province of manufacture.

Even though the Canadian Government is investigating the price discrepancies, I don't expect a change anytime soon. Canadian Government Investigating Price Discrepancies For New Cars | The Truth About Cars

And it's not just cars, a lot of other consumer goods are way more expensive here too.

Guess the common motto is "screw Canada"

Hah, should have bought the SRT. According to Milous the base price in US and Canada is the same. Let me rethink this.

"MOST" car manufacturers black list the car if it was imported prior to 6 months from the in service date. Meaning no warranty in this country. Seen it enforced on a corvette driver, they were very specific, it wasn't that he didn't have warranty but that he needed to go to the US to get warranty. Cadillac Voids the Manufacturer Maintenance and so does BMW if they are from the US even if they are imported after the 6 months.

It is a fairly big task... Imported a used Yukon and they had to do a special cerification on it (even though it was a year old). There are some rights the manufactures have when it comes to grey market import so check all your facts before you try to do an import. When I used to do Audio stuff Pioneer would simply void the warranty all together on grey market stuff returned for repair.... legally speaking I don't think they can but since the taxes would need to be paid as most of those were brought over improperly, no one fought it.

Re: 2014 Canadian Pricing for Grand Cherokee

I'm seeing more used vehicles on dealer lots originating from the US. They basically offer a third party warranty from Lubrico or some other company. These are cars that are only 2-3 years old.

I checked out Autotrader last night and 2013 GC's (Laredo's) are priced around 30K. That would be 10K off the price of a new one. I realize I can't really call a 2013 and 2014 equal but I'm thinking of going with a used 2013 to save some money.

After 6 months from in service date, it is fair game. 2013 is the same platform but a completely different drive train 8 gears instead of 5 is pretty huge. It is also just a better tranny. I have the 5 in my Durango at the moment and not impressed now that I have driven the 2014. Brings all new life to all of the engines.

Amazing. I just checked out jeep.com and jeep.ca and its true. However, how can Chrysler justify the price differences between the other trim levels?

Laredo US $32495 Cdn $39995
Limited US $37795 Cdn $46995
Overland US $45995 Cdn$ 54995
Summit US $50995 Cdn $59995
SRT US $62995 Cdn $62995

Careful...option pairing and what is standard vs what is optional in the US are completely different. You need to change the vehicle so that it matches. For example Summit in the US is standard with a V6 in Canada if you order the V6 you get over a $1200 credit. There are other differences but that is a bigger one. Anyway, not justifying it but just pointing out it is not AS BAD as it looks.

Re: 2014 Canadian Pricing for Grand Cherokee

A Laredo E 4X4 seems to be the base Laredo in Canada and the price is $34,495USD versus $40,000CDN.

Re: 2014 Canadian Pricing for Grand Cherokee

When you look at the Limited's the price difference seems to be $10,000 for equally equipped models.
