Re: 2014 Capless Fuel Filler Cap

After 5000+ miles and 5 different states, I have not had any major issues with the capless fuel filler. Sometimes I might have to push the nozzle in a bit further to keep the pump from shutting off, but other than that it has been wonderful. I love not having to unscrew a cap and put it back on. Also don't have to worry about the little cord breaking in the future and keeping track of the cap.

Re: 2014 Capless Fuel Filler Cap

I've never had a problem with my capless filler, other than the fact it's capless. One of the first things I do when I get a new vehicle is purchase a locking gas cap for it - just gives me a little extra peace of mind, and makes it a little more difficult for those not-so-honest members of society who might be looking to siphon off some of my gas or have the intent to do vandalism. Granted the '14s have a locking cover, but that's not really a theft deterrent. I'd just as soon have a regular gas cap.

Re: 2014 Capless Fuel Filler Cap

Hi,

Got my 2014 Grand Cherokee a month ago and hate the Capless Fuel Filler Cap. I've put gas on it 3 times and it is ridiculous how hard it is.

I realize this post is old and cannot find another thread that only covers this issue.

Has anyone talked to jeep or found out a workaround to easily pump gas?
Are those of us who are having difficulties have a defective cap?
Should the metal opening open when the full release button is pressed?

I'll try to swing by the dealership next Friday to see the difference with other models.

Thanks

I think it depends on the type of pump nozzle you are using. The metal tab stays closed until the nozzle pushes it open, but some types of pump nozzles are harder to use than others. The ones with the spring loaded spill prevention systems are harder to use, I think.

Re: 2014 Capless Fuel Filler Cap

Any problems with dust/dirt getting into the fuel system without a cap?

I drive a fair amount on dirt/gravel roads & I know that dirt gets all around my current fuel cap (2010)

I've been wondering how it will "age" as well, since Colorado requires testing the fuel cap. A new cap costs a few bucks, but if that thing fails, I suspect it could get pricey in a hurry.

None of the hoses on the front range seem to have problems fitting in, but some seem fiendishly designed to always drizzle a few tablespoons of gas as you remove them.

Re: 2014 Capless Fuel Filler Cap

in 4K miles I haven't had any problems.

I don't think dust/dirt getting in will be a problem, it looks to me like the door seals pretty tightly.

Re: 2014 Capless Fuel Filler Cap

I had no problem at all filling the tank. However I have a question about the little pin hole on the deck under the fill spout. I figured it was to drain any spilled fuel back into the tank. Then after a wash I noticed water inside the fuel door, now I am concerned that pin hole could introduce water into the fuel?

no issues here, i think those having problens are suffering from "operators error" though in texas we require a fuel cap and my inspection house never even looked at it.... lol

waiting for someone to question it during inspection lol
