Re: 2014 Capless Fuel Filler Cap

Living in Ny but work in NJ so I usually fill up around work as gas is cheaper there. In NJ you cannot pump your own gas.

The only problem that I faced is strange WTF look on the attendands face when I pop the fuel door and there is no cap. Ford had similar capless system for some time now so I am suprised that they are suprised.

When pumping gas myself in NY I had no issues whatsoever. The only interesting thing that I've seen is that gas spills a lot more than on my other car. It drains back somewhere using this whole. It has to be some design thing going on here.

Capless is also must have for diesel.

Re: 2014 Capless Fuel Filler Cap

Four states, two countries, and I don't know how many different stations, never had a problem filling up. Run the pump to auto shut off, and nothing spills.

I never fill past the pumps auto shut-off. I've read that it's not good for the vacuum set-up of the vehicles tank.

Thanks for the tip. I'll pump slower and stop when the pump does.

Re: 2014 Capless Fuel Filler Cap

Nobody else is worried about water getting into that little dranage hole? After you guys wash the truck/ car wash, does water get into the fuel door? there was water in mine after a car wash.

Re: 2014 Capless Fuel Filler Cap

I assume the hole goes down behind the body somewhere, I bet it's to keep the gas off your paint so it has to drain where it won't hurt anything.

And yes, the capless fuel filler thingy is a PITA. On some pumps I have to hold the nozzle just right to keep the gas from shutting off.

Re: 2014 Capless Fuel Filler Cap

Here in Aus we no longer have pumps that you can "lock" on so that it fills the tank itself and automatically clicks of when full, so we Aussies stand there holding the pump until the click off (and we usually round out the dollar amounts so often put just a bit more in lol).

Out of interest, why cant you pump your own gas in NJ?

Same thing in Massachusetts mate (state law). The locking levers are removed on all self-serve pumps. What I have seen though is people jamming their gas cap under the pumping level so they don't have to hold it in the "on" position themselves (also against the law). But now with more & more cars going with the capless design, they won't be able to do that either.

NJ has a state law about no self-serve gas. I guess the people there aren't smart enough to pump their own gas.

The only issue I have with the GC capless design is it's hard to drain what's left in the spigot portion (by pulling it out of the filler neck an inch) without spilling the dead leg down that drain hole.

Re: 2014 Capless Fuel Filler Cap

Yeah they jam the caps under the levers here too (especially the diesel pumps).

I guess in NJ it creates jobs for "service attendants" to fill your car.

Don't get my SRT till Nov so maybe the design is slightly different for export models.
