2014 "Corporate Fleet" Summit good idea?

Hi Folks,

Background story, owned a WK for seven years. Sold it for a VW GTI, which I owned at time I signed onto this forum in 2012; it was Tornado red, hence my nondescript username. Lusted after a WK2 for a long time, held out for 8 speed transmission.... but ended up with a 2015 Highlander because it was the logical family choice. Every time I see a WK2 I realize my HL is an appliance,. I'm considering getting rid of the HL for a WK2. Low depreciation of HL allows the move to not be completely financially insane.

There are a lot of "corporate fleet" 2014 Summits with 10k-50k miles available right now in the $38K-$45k price range. CarFax lists type of owner as "Corporate" and sold at auction by manufacturer (here's an example: CARFAX Vehicle History Report for this 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE SUMMIT: 1C4RJFJT5EC309002). I'd be looking at one with the Hemi. Build dates appear to range from 10/13 on.

Does anyone know if these are FCA employee vehicles, i.e. does FCA have such a program? Reason to avoid?

Cheers

If you owned a construction company, you would have a Summit. Thus corporate. Or could be a lemon buy back. Get more information.

AAAA, understand your point.

Most of them that I saw are titled out of Lake Orion, MI. The buybacks/lemons are flagged on the titles and not out of Lake Orion - those certainly exist and there is a lot of them, which causes me to pause to even be considering.

The only thing I can think of is don't buy an early build 2014. Just don't.

Re: 2014 "Corporate Fleet" Summit good idea?

Hello sir and I believe we chatted on the Highlander forums :-) Glad you are here on the JG forums as there is so much information available here.

I work with a guy who bought a '14 Summit that was also listed as corporate vehicle. He purchased with 17K miles and as far as I know its been problem free. He also has the V8 and based on my time on these forums those have the better transmission with possibly significantly less issues than the V6 version. Even though I would still without a doubt try to avoid very early built '14s, I suppose as long as the car checks out good then I don't see any problem with it. Maybe see if you can take it for an extended test drive, maybe even for a day or two so you can get a real feel for the car and maybe that way you can see how if anything is being finnicky or not.
Also consider an Overland as those might be slightly cheaper and you might be able to get one thats a bit newer if build date is a concern.
I have a very late built 2014 Summit V8 with about 2500 miles on it and its been great! Love every minute behind the wheel!

I know we chatted on the HL forums, but I understand what you're saying about the Highlander. We had a Limited Platinum that had almost all the bells and whistles of the new higher end Grand Cherokee's, but the second row captains chairs were going to quickly become a problem with more than two kids. Great vehicle, but like you, being a car guy it just wasn't the same as the WK2. It was technically my wifes, but I finagled everything so I can get my new Summit and she was still happy too :-)

Thanks, JTS. Yep, same guy from HL forums.

So what's the consensus on too early for a 2014?

Re: 2014 "Corporate Fleet" Summit good idea?

Yes, they are corporate vehicles.

Owned by Chrysler and Chrysler only. Those are all titled out of Lake Orion. They are all taken care of like a baby. They were used for several purposes, fast feedback, executive cars, corporate leases (employee driven), auto reviewers (Autoblog, Consumer Reports, Car and Driver, etc), I could go on and on...

The thing is, they are early 2014s, and we ALL know about those, which are actually 2013.5s as far as I'm concerned. I know a lot of you guys call the late 2014s 2014.5s, but you don't know what I know. The late 2014s are *real* 2014s.

Wait like a month or two or three and I'm sure you can get a sweet deal on a new 15.

I'd get a diesel and throw a GDE tune on it, no emissions worries. I'm a big fan of the diesel Kool-Aid though!
