The transmission should adjust a bit as you drive. You might want to have your dealer completely reset it [battery pull] as there've been report crappy shifting off the lot that tend to get better as you drive it after the reset.
Mileage is pretty much dependent on the weight and steadiness of your right foot.
Typical suburban commute runs in the high 17s to low 18s if you leave it out of sport mode. However, now that you have a few hundred miles, your dealer should have recommended using that sport mode and a few "wheeee!" runs every now and then
to help with engine break in. Once it is broken in, I just got 19.4 on a combined highway/off-road/nasty road trip, where speeds ranged from 2 mph to cruising at 80-85 for extended periods.
If you aren't using mid-grade, try that, it seems to work better than regular.
