After owning my Grand Cherokee Limited for almost two months I just wanted to get some feedback on gas mileage. I have a 2-wheel drive with the 3.6L. I am averaging city/hiway 21.4 mpg in eco. mode. After a week or so of just city driving I'm still averaging over 20 mpg. The furthest I've went so far on the hi-way was about 80 miles, consistent speed of 75 MPH and got 22 mpg. I have yet to get over 22 mpg and less then 20 mpg. I'm in the 20 to 22 mpg range no matter if it's city or hi-way driving. Just curious what everyone else is averaging.
I've only got 600 mi on my 14' 4x4 overland so it's still breaking in. The EVIC is saying 19~ with 50/50 mixed driving. I haven't had a chance to figure it out manually since I'm still on my first tank of gas that was topped off. When I'm crusing at 70mph I can get the instant gas mileage to hover around 25mpg. It will be interesting to take a road trip that's 100% highway to see how high I can get the gas mileage.
2014 3.6L Limited 4x4, just broke 4000 miles
Assuming you are looking at EVIC readings I probably average 18/19 city and have seen it crest at around 23 on the highway a few times. It starts to trickle down if I am doing 75-80 mph on ~170 mile highway trips. I've had two of the three transmission updates performed just as an additional data point.
I have ~3,000 miles on my '14 V6 Limited 4x4 and I'm averaging 15.7 mpg with mostly city driving (manually calculated, not per EVIC). I'm in Los Angeles, so even the highways are a bit stop and go at times, plus I'm probably on the more aggressive end of the spectrum.
The longest trip I've taken so far was 150 miles each way, and I'm guessing I averaged ~21-22 mpg on that trip.
I've also noticed my mileage improving as I rack up more miles on the car. My average mpg is probably up 1 - 1.5 mpg since my first tank.
I've got 15k on my Overland. On average driving I'm getting 20, more if I'm on the highway, less if I'm in the city. I will say that since the last upgrade to the software, the transmission shifting has improved dramatically but the mileage has suffered.
Thanks for all the updates. Looks pretty much like we are all getting about the same mileage give or take. Was hoping to get up to 25 mpg hiway but I guess at 75 mph it ain't gonna happen.
I will be letting you guys know in February when I return from deployment how the 14' v6 4x4 does long mileage. I have to make the trip from Southern California to Norfolk, VA. It will be all highway but take in the fact it will have the RRO lift kit with 275/65/18 wheels on it so it won't be as accurate to those who don't have the lift.
With just under 9000 miles on my Limited, I avg just about 20mpg (even with me hammering on it for fire calls). On highway, it is around 23-24mpg, city around 15-16. Now that winter is here, I know it will take a hit but it is still better than my 08 TB I had.
City around 15-16, I would think you'd get a little better. I guess when you say city you mean heavy stop and go traffic. City driving for me is 40 - 45 mph and stopping regularly for traffic lights.
I've got a 2011 Hemi Grand, and long round-trip highway runs I never see under 22mpg at 65mph cruise speeds. My 2012 Wrangler with the Penta/5spd can do 24mpg all day at ~65mpg and that's quite the brick to push. These figures are with no headwinds, cruise control on and light traffic. I'd expect the Penta Grands to easily get 25-26mpg highway under the same condition. Without cruise control my mileage drops a few points.
Its interesting to hear that the 8spd tranny did basically nothing for fuel economy. Actually kind of surprising as you would have thought it would. Does Jeep even claim an increase or no?
I believe Jeep claims a 1mpg increase with the 8sp. I'd say the biggest improvement with the 8sp is the acceleration. Car and driver had a 0-60 (quarter mile) time for the
2011 V6 @ 8.1 sec (16.3@87) vs a
2014 V6 @ 7.5 sec (15.7@90).
I don't have a ton of data yet, only 750 miles on my '14 Limited. Around town and my normal commute, I'm averaging about 18-19. Took a trip from Clev to Columbus and back with the Jeep loaded up with 2 co-workers and all our gear, plus work stuff, and averaged 22.5 with the cruise set to 73-74. That stretch down 71 has plenty of little up/down hills, so it's not exactly flat.
Plus, being cold and snowy, I've used the remote start several times at work (lunch and leaving). So that's not helping my mpg's.
I had a 2003 Liberty prior to this, and it averaged about 16-17 around town, and would see 19-20 on the highway.
Have a 2014 Laredo getting about the same gas mileage as you guys seem to be getting, however, I have been turning the eco mode off. I can't stand how awful the car drives with it on. It is so laggy and the transmission is very clicky or snappy with it on, it is not smooth transitions between shifts. Turning Eco Mode off and turning traction control off makes it much more nicer and smoother to drive
I'm at around 4500 miles on my 3.6L 4x4. The winter gas mix with a bit wider tires, same overall diameter, has bumped the mileage down to around 15.5 mpg, 95% city driving.
Hurts coming from a smaller coupe, but I'm not complaining too much.
A mileage update. Took my first longer ride from KY to Detroit and back. Got 23.8 mpg running at about 73-75 mph going up. Coming back 20.5 with wife driving and headwind. All hand calculated since my GC evic adds about .9 mpg.
One heck of a lot better ride than my (former) Caliber or Ram 2500.
I get 15 city. That's a lot of stop and go with max speed of 45. On the highways I get 23+ at around 70 mph. With this cold weather i have taken a 2 mpg hit.
On long trips I typically get about 25, and I've got 4WD. The key is to keep a constant speed and never use the brake. I mean never, unless of course you really need to.
I have about 2500 miles on mine and with about 60/40 split on Hwy/City I'm only averaging 18.5. My EVIC always reads about 1-1.5 miles higher. I'm also in Colorado so the cold isn't helping at all.
I'm in the exact same boat. I just hit 2,000 miles on my '14 Summit and have the exact same fuel economy numbers. I'll always wonder just how much more fuel economy I'd get from the 6 vs the 8. The low end "grunt" of the v8 is the best
