I tried the polarized glasses and that worked, thanks! But I hadn't noticed the vent reflected in the door window, until you mentioned it!

Unfortunately i am already 4 eyed, so polarized glasses won't work. I hadn't noticed it until you mentioned it and I looked, so hopefully the hypnotist will be able to get rid of the memory of this thread for me.

Just like humming that song (I won't mention a name) over and over and over, in your head!

Re: 2014 GC OWNER'S Review

Iíll throw in my impressions of the 2014 Overland so far. Iíve only had it a week and these opinions are based on my personal idiosyncrasies.

Overland V8
White/tan
Quadra drive II
Adv Tech group

<O</O
The Good:

--sport mode. I bought the V8, sport mode is awesome. Very fun SUV to drive!
--suspension, handling, cornering, steering and braking all ended up being way better than I expected. I really love how this thing drives.
--remote start via phone app. I havenít had any problems with this, it works for me (it does take some time to initiate) but itís a cool feature that I appreciate and will so even more in our hot CA summers
--the interior styling is much improved from my Dadís 2011 Overland. The dash, seat material and stitching are all of great quality
--the 2nd row seats flip forward and flat quicker and easier than most of my previous cars
--no 3rd row seat. A pro? For meÖyes! Itís just us and 1 kid and I donít even want to have the option to take more people in my car, haha! For the first time in years I have a flat cargo area! Folding 3rd row seats always mess up the configuration of the cargo area by causing it to not be totally flat (Sequoia, QX56) or take up space in the cargo area itself (Landcruiser).
--the remote start via the key fob is easy to use. Double press, thatís it. Iíve had some other SUVs that it was so complicated I never used it.
--the screen on the 8.4N is HUGE!
--clearest back up camera ever.
--capless fuel filler. This. Is. Neat.
--LED daytime running lights. Could live without them, but they are neat, too.
--I really like the styling of the GC.
--hefty interior door handles. I like a nice, solid interior door handle.
--120v power. With no ďon/offĒ switch. Plug it in and it worksÖI donít have to dig around the console for the on/off switch.

</O
The Bad:

--seat heater/vent on/off location. Oye. I loathe this. I want a knob or button. Yesterday I did 4 errands, running in a store and back into the car in a short period of time. Negotiating into the screen every time is an annoyance.
--climate controls. All of them. The screen responds with a delay to my pressing the temp button up or down. And I donít understand how the ďautoĒ climate works at all. I can turn it down to 60 and the auto system still wonít kick the AC on even tho itís hot outside and the air is blowing at my feet and defrost.
--the Uconnect totally locked up when I put my iphone usb charger in the front usb port.
--gear shifter. Blech. Still not used to it. What I donít like is that I have to look at it to figure out what gear Iím in.
<O
</O
The Meh:

--seat comfort. Not terrible, but not great. I like a big, comfy seat.
--a few quality control issues. 1 fog light is out, looks like wiring. Glove box not aligned properly.

</O
Hereís what I miss from my QX:

--auto up/down on all 4 windows
--birds eye camera. I think Infiniti is the only manuf that offers this. But if you havenít seen it, itís awesome. The camera system shows you a birds eye view of your vehicle. This was especially helpful in parking such a large SUV.
--the auto climate system was way better and the seat heater/vented was a knobÖeven better, the knob stayed in position and I didnít have to turn it back on every time I got in.
<O
</O
My goals in replacing the QX (which had only 15k miles) were:

--local dealer (the Infiniti dealer is 100 mi away from me. Too far with 2 full times jobs and a little kid)
--smaller
--tan interior (no more black interiors for me with kid and dogs). I passed on the Summit because of the darker interior colors.
<O</O
I have lots of experience with many different vehicles. Since 2001 weíve had:

--2001 Landcruiser, Lexus GS430, Honda Odyssey, Mercedes GL550, Sequoia, another Landcruiser, QX56, Unlimited Sahara, Unlimited Rubicon AEV, Nissan Titan, 2 Silverados and a Mustang GT500.

I can afford to drive whatever I want and in the end I chose the Overland because I thought it had the best combination of quality, what you get for your money and styling. No, itís not perfect, but Iíve spent 80k+ on a Mercedes that was the biggest piece of crap I ever drove (same company, I know!) Only time will tell how the Grand Cherokee works out for me.

Great review.

Mercedes is out of Chrysler ... you are driving a Fiat.

Re: 2014 GC OWNER'S Review

I think it was Chrysler at the time...it was a 2008 Mercedes GL550. I didn't put very many miles on it. It started falling apart immediately, the dealer experience was terrible and it was the least ergonimically friendly vehicle ever. The rear DVD was located UNDER the back passenger seat?

Which way is it out? Mine is sticking out slightly compared to the rear door. Almost like the striker isn't in far enough. Going to let things wear in a bit then get it adjusted on the first oil change I think. Was just curious if yours was out the same or off up and down.

Re: 2014 GC OWNER'S Review

Ill try to get a picture of it sunday. out of town until then.

Looking from the rear up to the front, the door looks like it sticks out just a little more than it should.

and looking at the doors from the side, it looks like the door is slightly higher than the rear door.

maybe like MKA18 says it will settle in, but now that I notice it, I keep noticing it

Yep, sounds like mine looks. From the back it looks a little like the door isn't shut. This is a pic standing in front looking down the door crease, you can see it sticks out a bit. It will push in as well, so I think the striker just needs adjusted a little. The door also needs shut a little harder than the others. Oil change time will be here before I know it so I'll just have them do it then I think. Just a minor adjustment...

I would think you can set the seats to stay on or go off when you turn the car off. Same with setting the temp controls. Does anyone know if and how to do this?
