I have finally been told that I am in the buy back program and that Chrysler is going to buy back my Overland and replace it. I did not need a lawyer, just a good dealership Manager to be my advocate with Chrysler. If you guys don't know this, the dealerships are not owned by Chrysler they buy the cars from them but they work for you the customer. That means that your headache is their headache and the more they hit Chrysler with complaints and angry customers the more they get a response (or they loose the customer). As I read these threads I see the recurring issues is dealerships do not have enough experience with the 14s and the Uconnect system is a mess. Unfortunately in February this was the first ones out of the barn and Chrysler was expecting the dealerships to fix small issues that got through inspection. The problem is that some of the issues grew as you had the car and were not seen on the line.
Chrysler is (in my opinion) over their heads with complaints and while some of you have jeeps that are working great, I heard from the dealership that the service department can't keep up. They even tried to order a Uconnect but none were available. I am fortunate that I have a dealership that echoed my frustration and pushed to get a replacement vehicle.
I recommend that you go to the owner of the dealership and show them "jeepgararge" complaints so they too can see the systemic issue. Notice I did not take the money and go get a Range rover or BMW X5. I love the Overland and just want it right, what does that tell you about loyalty!
If I remember correctly this was after a call from Chrysler (a "curt woman", I believe you said) told you no Jeep exchange would happen - right?

Glad it worked out for you and you didn't have to go to the trouble and expense of lawyering up.

After car shopping this weekend, my wife and I are also going to try again with another Jeep. It's like some kind of hypnosis. Strange spell these things have put us under. I guess as always, the dealer is everything. The people in our service department are super nice, and we've genuinely liked everyone we met and we know they just want our Jeep to be a good vehicle, but they have that glassy-eyed deer caught in the headlights look about them.

So we're going to try a new Jeep and a new dealer.

The question is -- with all these issues, how are you planning on making sure you get a good vehicle? Just figure lightning won't strike twice and hope that "this is a minority of people with issues," which contradicts what we all suspect here? Make sure your car is from April/May and hope the first few batches of lemons are past?

My lawyer said I could even have one made. Unfortunately, I don't have another car for my wife to drive while I wait around for that...

Every cell of my body is screaming, "thank god you got out of Chrysler -- run far far away..." Am I stupid for ignoring this?
I gave up on the first Jeep I ordered - 10 weeks+ in Final Inspection - I was assured by Chevy Boy and others on the Ordering thread, "Hey, be patient, no problem". After reading the horror stories here, I'm not convinced - obviously something was seriously wrong - at least they didn't ship out a lemon and I'm grateful for that.

Anyway, I gave up and my dealer ordered another for me - it was produced in early May (on the 9th, I think) so hopefully all will be well - we'll see.

I agree the screen is a pain. I want buttons of items I use most. I don't want to go to a screen and then a second screen embedded to get to the fan in the seat.
My temperature change takes forever to get the desired results. If I am at 70 degrees on the screen and change it to 65 it takes a couple of minutes for me to hear the click in the dash and then the change of temperature. If I want to change it, by screen or by the buttons I want it done ASAP. My AC takes forever to get cold.

For all the issues I am having, ac responsiveness is not one of them... If I change the temp even one degree, it is instantly changing what is blowing out.

Re: 2014 GC OWNER'S Review

I thought I'd be unhappy with some of the climate controls buried, but it doesn't bother me. As long as the fan speed and temp are right there, and they are, I'm fine with the less frequently used ones on the screen. I hate buttons and they should only be around if essential and frequently used.

I think they've done a nice job with uconnect and the interface. I haven't thought "oh that's just dumb" like I usually do with car interfaces. Considering I'm a software snob, that's saying a lot!

Re: 2014 GC OWNER'S Review

I'm a software snob as well, and while I loved our Acura TSX SportWagon in every way, I hated the NAV and audio interface. Just hated it. It was the one thing that killed the whole car for me.

The one in our Grand Cherokee is pertty close to a perfect ten. Granted, I haven't spent much time in the vehicle, but the infotainment system is as close as I think I'll be able to get to "just what I'm looking for."

Re: 2014 GC OWNER'S Review

Unless they put me on the design and dev team, it won't ever be what I'm looking for!

They did a great job though. Sure we all have some nits, but you can't please everyone.

ems, please keep us posted on the buy-back process. What's involved? How does it work? How long does it take? etc.

Re: 2014 GC OWNER'S Review

I just purchased a JGC overland edition a few weeks ago. I haven't had great luck. The UConnect screen has locked up on me a total of 2 times and completely blacked out on me once. One time it locked up and even the manual controls wouldn't let me override the volume on the stereo or AC. Simply turning on and off the vehicle several times corrected the problem. This last occurrence takes the cake however. I started my JGC and all the controls on the dash lit up and stayed on. Brake, seatbelt, airbag you name it. The EVIC control went haywire and was telling me the air suspension needed serviced as well as the air bag. I attempted to press the UConnect button and it said it couldn't bc the vehicle was in motion while in park. The vehicle thought it was moving???!!? BTW I have the forward collision warning so that's scary to hear/see. I have had it towed to the dealership and have been told the ABS module is bad and I need a new one and this will correct all my issues. I'm no mechanic but that sounds iffy. The ABS modules are also on back order and my brand new JGC gets to sit in a shop for 2 weeks. I was told "oh, it's safe to drive the check engine light will just constantly be on" What person wants to drive a brand new vehicle with a check engine light on?? Started w/ 29 miles now around 500 and its breaking down already. Sorry done with my venting. you asked so I answered........

Hello Beck,

Tell your dealer to check the battery ground strap. I had a very similar experience with my GC and one of the codes was faulty ABS module, which they replaced. It went on from there. I won't say much more here, as I'm trying to confine my posts about this to my own thread:
2014 GC Totally $#@% dead

But do not drive this vehicle again without checking the ground from the battery as well as the ground mentioned by someone else in my thread. I'm sure it will also turn up in a search. If you are lucky (crossing my fingers for you), the ABS is the only thing that died from the grounding issue. Unfortunately, I drove mine another 100 miles or so before they found the real issue. By that point, my Jeep was pretty much toast I'm afraid.

Best of luck.

Hey, for everyone who might be interested, Chrysler came out with the Uconnect 8.4an update today. Mine is still working great since the fix of last week, but i will be going in to get the update on Monday. Hope the update might fix some of the problems out there.

Re: 2014 GC OWNER'S Review

I had to run out to Lowes in the middle of the day. The spud rod I bought needed the seat backs put down. A little pull up on the handle of the rear seat and the entire thing folded flat.

Wonderful. Still loving this truck.
