Are the UConnect and Instrument Cluster engineers in the building?
If so, got any nerf balls or better yet Clue Bats?

[Perhaps I'm harsh because I'm in the computer engineering business]

The Mechs and the body build on the new 2014 seem to all be in order, even with the missus inspecting it to levels where I felt sorry for the delivery techs.

But when you are driving down the street (to the dealer for a bogus MIL light, no less) and your analog speedo display loses all the numbers when you already have a MIL light you are pretty sure is bogus, you tend to start worrying about all those other doohickeys that affect braking, engine life, etc.

The Uconnect system seems almost ready for a Beta test, not production by any means unless Microsoft [update every month] engineers have been hired.

The body seams, fit of the panoramic sunroof, paint and trim quality are truly nice and it rides like a big sedan, yet can still crawl rocks, and the brown/frost interior is really nice.

Suspect that may have been a bit of fudging to help eke out a better EPA rating, as most vehicles with start/stop, sport mode, skip shift, etc. nowadays seem to set the default mode to be the presumed highest mileage mode.

I've gotten used to just bouncing the shift lever twice into drive already.

Although I like the paddle shifters, and even more that they are metal instead of plastic, I really would prefer the shifter to handle shifts like a sequential handle.

Also, it would be nice just for schizzles to be able to display current gear in eco mode on the instrument display.

I can hardly wait till mine needs smog check, and the tech tries to do a fuel cap pressure check. [I'm easily amused]

Somehow the filler seems to be perfectly angled to always drizzle a bit of gas as you disconnect--unless someone has mastered the art of dropping the back end of the filler to tip the end up and can post a YouTube of how to accomplish this miracle.

Hopefully in a family forum, we can avoid discussing the issues of posterior padding thickness and how it affects the heat transfer from the seat.

If you choose to display just the mode you're in instead of P, R, N, D, S all displayed, you can see the gear you are in, just to the right. It is faint, but visible, even in ECO mode.

Trade in the wife? :-)

We were looking at both an optioned out Limited and the Overland and by the time you add the lux, and the etc. and the etc. and the etc. the Limited gets awfully close to the Overland in price.

Then, at a different dealer, the missus saw the Overland's Brown/frost interior and the discussion was over.

Hurrah for Jeep!!

I am so sick of fly-by-wire steering which most cars have had for the past few years. To me these feel more like a video game than driving a car. The Steering on the Hemi equipped JGC is slightly on the heavy side, but very manageable, and with the most direct and enjoyable "feel" that I've experienced in ages.

I didn't buy the Hemi for the steering, but am so pleased now that I have it. If anyone is considering a new JGC and values the feel of great steering you owe it to yourself to test drive one with the V8.

Michael
Amen to the steering on the Hemi compared to the V6.
The Hemi, and if I remember correctly, the Diesel have power rack and pinion steering. It can be a tad on the quick side, but with the suspension in aero it feels more like a big sedan carving up the mountain curves west of Denver.

I particularly like the 7" screen's showing an abbreviated nav map when coming up on turns. I do have a bit of a complaint though. Really the first thing that's really bugged me much. In bright sunlight the stitching on my dash (black Overland interior with white stitching) reflects off the windshield and is somewhat distracting. I'll have to see how this plays out, and if I get used to it, and don't notice it anymore. Other than that no real issues so far.
It would be nice if you could read the instrument cluster a bit better on really bright sunny days, while wearing polarized sunglasses.

I have 4 eyes as well, but wear those glasses with the little magnets at the front top of the frames that you attach polarized or other sunglasses to.

Really cuts down on glare, and also headaches when driving across Nevada, etc.
