Re: 2014 GC OWNER'S Review

After a couple of months of trouble free service my medi/radio/nav unit is failing again. Yesterday the nav wouldn't work, it lost the seat settings, and the sd and usb ports quit working. I love everything else about this jeep but I'm starting to think this 8.4AN is not worth the extra money!

If your NAV failed, you will get an updated piece of hardware that will likely take care of this issue for you as well. I think they have a handle on the hardware problems with the units.

Re: 2014 GC OWNER'S Review

Got an owners survey direct from Jeep yesterday.

Needless to say, I made sure they knew where the issues were with MY particular vehicle. Mainly, the issues for me came down to 3 categories:

Uconnect/media/radio/nav glitches, which I know will be corrected with a few updates.
Transit damage, not their fault but they clearly want to know.
And more importantly, fit and finish issues. I really let them have it on these because they are clearly recurring/common, and should be straightforward to correct with a few process tweaks.

What I found interesting was the structure of the survey.

There were literally predefined check boxes for items as specific as the mirror access button not working, climate control, uconnect remote app, etc. as well as the fit and finish items such as paint blemishes, individual panel misalignment, etc at the individual panel level.

Jeep clearly knows where the issues are based on how they structured the questions, so someone must be listening to owners.

Hopefully they can Six Sigma/Kaizan/whatever some of these process issues out of JNAP...

Clearly they are currently a little too heavy on LEAN, or maybe KanBan...

Hey now, I just had to watch videos all last year on this crap. I don't remember any of it as none of it applied to me, but still, it is slowly catching on.

I hear ya. Outside of the boutique manufacturers, I doubt any vehicle manufacturer gets close. Assembly line vs. cellular manufacturing are two polar opposites. Funny that I have seen many companies I have worked for try to cherry pick certain aspects... Outcome not so good other than some consultant had a decent payday. (No offense meant to any consultants on this board)

I get it but at the number of sub assemblies and suppliers it cannot apply to auto manufacturing in the current form.

Agree, but let's put it in context too, can we say that cell phone launches or refreshes are not a higher rate of failures? iPhone 5 home button anybody? Sure, mid stride or end run maybe they get closer but in the complex component still a long ways off.

Setting Metrics and continually raising the bar is where automotive needs to be today, no worries I am a consultant as well, but I leave the table when there is a Golden Boy in the room

The failure is Good Customer Service for the most part and Chevy can't help with that

Re: 2014 GC OWNER'S Review

What I wish would happen is JNAP would give Chevy any everyone else a big ole roll of Mr. Yuk stickers (the bean counters could probably even write them off as a charitable donation), see a defect and slap that bright green sticker on it. By the time the vehicle hits final inspection, you have the benifit of a few hundred eyes on it. At literally a Jeep a minute, you can't catch everything and I understand they don't want to stop the line... Just a thought.

See interesting idea, that is where real improvements come from.

I'll find out tomorrow, it goes to the dealer first thing in the morning.
