Re: 2014 GC OWNER'S Review

After 5,000 miles I think I'd like to change my vote. Originally i think I voted that I loved it. I'm not sure what category I'd choose though. Because, when I can drive it and everything is working, I really do love it! But, This car has been in and out for service more than any car i've ever had, combined. It is in the dealership right now for what I thought was the "Christmas tree" issue. They can't figure out what is going on with it apparently and are keeping it for another day. They've found some wiring issues. It's also been in for the transmission which was recently flashed (didn't really "help" more just "changed" shifting). The Uconnect system definitely needed to be held back before its release as features continuously don't work properly. Thanks to Willx we can see some fixes coming to keep our hopes up but it's still frustrating. Part of choosing the Grand Cherokee was all of the cool technology in it, now that technology seems to be slowly killing it.

In addition to the christmas tree issue, the speedometer wasn't working and every time I slowed down i could hear and feel the vehicle lower into park mode. Then as I would gain speed it would raise up. So, who knows if quadra-lift is going to last?

I'm starting to get a little bit frustrated if you guys can't tell. Thanks for letting me vent a tad on here.

The speedometer not working is part of the Christmas present. The 2 times I had it, Quadra-Lift didn't work at all.

I had all of those issues that you had and it took them 4 days to fix it, but I think they did. It was a ground that had been stripped and wasn't working right. It was located below the TIPM or something like that on the rail. Maybe yours is a bad ground as well. It felt line I was on a roller coaster as the air was going up and down. Good luck

Funny you say that... I was just going to post that I wouldn't be voting until I have a year and or several thousand miles on the truck. Some of the "great" votes and "awsome" commenets on here are new owners, with not a lot of miles and use on the trucks.

For me, after 2 weeks? WOW, it's a great truck!! LOL, but let's see in three years and 85K miles, lol....

Just keep that in mind when you guys vote, it's kind of skewed when you are voting based on a short term basis. Heck, I don't even know how the dealer is going to treat me when I take in for service, lol... I am used to the pampering and service and loaner cars at Lexus... We'll see

I will say in the 1K miles / 2 wks I've had it, I am very pleasently surprised at the features of my 2014 limited, from the finish to the bells and whistles inside. I traded in a Lexus IS250 and not too long ago sold my other car / an suv, Lexus RX350... Jeep has come a long way, since the prior ones I owned back years ago (I have owned Jeep Cherokee Sport, a Wrangler, and a CJ5).

If I could I would change my vote also. So far since April 1st we have put 4600 miles on my wife's Jeep. In those miles I have been to the dealer around 10 times. Most of the visits are for rattles that disappear as soon as you take it to the dealer. It has been in 4 times for the radio, everything from the cd player not working when you start it up to the thing forgetting my wife's phone, the last one is the important one they can't seem to fix, it was fixed for about 2 weeks and but when they reprogrammed the transmission it reset everything and brought the problem back. It has had the rear shocks replaced once. Today it is in having the water pump replaced. It is one thing after another with this thing, my wife will love it no matter what but it frustrates us to no end because I have had to bring the thing in 3 weeks in a row now, I'm sure it will be fine for a month or 2 and then I will be back at it again.

You called it right! They will be replacing something that holds the info or is responsible for info...I forgot exactly what she said but it should be here by Wednesday and hopefully this will fix it!

They likely called it a head unit... There is another three initial term that refers to the radio but you only see that in the case documentation really. They will probably swap the entire unit.

They didn't call it a head unit I think it was some type of module.

Was your water pump leaking or making noise? Just asking because I think this is the first I have read of a water pump issue on a 2014. I guess I have been lucky, I have an early build overland built at the end of Feb and now have 5300 miles on it and very few issues. I did take it in earlier this week and they did an alignment for the from tires feathering on the edges and updated the radio to 13.19. That was my first service visit other than an oil change I had. Hopefully those that do have issues get them worked out and can have many miles of trouble free driving.

Squealing since in was new, but the noise has been getting worse. I guess it could have been leaking for all I know... The tires were starting to feather a little at 3000 miles, if it keeps getting worse after I rotate the tires that will be the next thing it will be going in for is a alignment. They are saying my wife's phone isn't compatible with uconnect so we are screwed for that. I'm glad they come out with all of this technology without thinking anything through, her phone worked fine with sync.

On another note, while I was waiting today for her jeep to get done I wandered the parking lot. I looked at the bumpers on all of the jeeps they had. Every single one has scratches around the fog light housing and on the front and rear bumpers, the same as my wife's had. 3 cheers for automatic car washes ruining paint jobs!
