Re: 2014 GC OWNER'S Review

Bought 2014 V6 gas Overland last friday with advanced electronics package, have 450 miles on it. Option was ML350 and Range Rover Sport. Bought jeep for overall value and because I replaced a 2004 grand cherokee that we put 200k miles on and loved. It is staying in family as backup and for our 17 year old to use.

Overall very pleased except for following:

1. Why the hell doesn't the back tailgate window not open. Tailgate used to be two pieces now one. This takes a big chunk out of Jeeps functionality. If you can't just open window you have much harder time carrying oversized stuff...good grief.

2. V6 gas engine way under power compared to my 2004's V8 high output engine. Current v6 has 290 hp but only 260 lbs of torque, my old V8 had 280 hp but 325 ft lbs of torque. The old adage is true - H.P. may sell cars but torque wins races and get you up the hill.

Aside from these I love mine. I went with V6 because local dealer did not have hemi with color combo I wanted and I figured gas savings will be a plus and I didn't need as much torque as hemi since I do not tow anymore and off-road is pretty much dirt roads.

Everything else is sweet and I hope to get 200k miles out of it. Ride is very comfortable and is chock full of luxuries.

EDIT - Eco button should be called "No fun" button. Need way to disengage it automatically.
Chuck

Just an update on my 14 summit hemi. After all of my electrical issues that I had, I've put 1500 miles on after the dealership found a bad ground, and I haven't had 1 new problem. 😄 The only thing I'm suffering is the remote start ac issues, but it seems like that fix is here. With around 3400 miles I'm avg 20.7 mpg with 50/50 city highway and 10% ethanol. Very happy with that and the power.

You're lucky, if you had some mountains around, your mpg would drop by at least 2 mpg.

Re: 2014 GC OWNER'S Review

The dealership finally got the part in to fix my medi problems and they confirmed that they have the correct updates...My Jeep is the first one they will do so I'm a little worried! She ran my vin and said they have two updates for it, I thought it was one update for everything??? I'll find out tomorrow exactly what parts are being replaced, wish me luck!

The Jeep is still a sweet ride but it will be nice to get rid of the nav/medi/radio issues!

Re: 2014 GC OWNER'S Review

I picked up my Deep Cherry Red Limited w/V6 4x4, tow pkg, sun roof and 20 inch wheels last Saturday 9/7/13 . 17 weeks from order to delivery yuk!, I was told the sun roof parts were on back order. The build/delivery dates were moved out twice. That's not your fault but I had to mention it. My GC was built after the new transmission software load so it shifts smoothly. The tailgate alignment is perfect and all of the interior trim, liner, etc. (mentioned in other threads) is spot on. There was some goo in the driver door panel on the interior window weather strip. I slipped a putty knife wrapped with a rag between the window and the weather strip and was able to clean the goo so that small issue is solved. Pretty darn good overall. Grade= A-

1000 Mile 2014 Summit Owners Report
--------------------------------------

After 1000 miles, I can report that while we are overall pleased with the vehicle, there are still some items that don't quite work as expected:

1) Homelink: This works.. then it doesn't, then it does..the range to be frank, flat out sucks. My Silverado's built in Homelink has always worked quite well to the point that the door is open fully by the time I turn in the driveway. The jeep works only when we am sitting 10 feet away pointed straight at the door. Doesn't matter how long (or short) the button is pushed. Don't want to hear about radio interference (I am a wireless engineer) and considering my current vehicle works just fine. I do wonder if the windshield itself (wiper sensor, GPS, etc) may be partly to blame in attenuating the signal. It would be interesting to see if those that have issues with this vs. those that don't, have the wiper sensor windshield.

2) Phone Pairing: Another when it works, it is works very well, but occasionally one or both of our phones (Galaxy S3's) won't pair up. Again, not an issue in my Silverado with either phone

3) Remote Hatch: It does take 4 clicks of the remote to open the rear hatch. We just accept it, yet we find that we rarely use it anyway

4) Remote Start: Same A/C issue that others have..hope this gets resolved

*One feature that we do miss is the remote auto down all windows. Considering the price point and the targeted competition, this is disappointing. We knew going in that this feature was not available, but did not realize how much we missed (and used) it in our previous vehicle

..and last but not least...

The Hemi.....I think it is a mistake buying this.

why???

I am afraid that the wife will be getting a rash speeding tickets. You see, she transforms into a totally different person with a sh#t eating grin every time she merges on to the highway ..

My homelink works just fine. It fact it works better than the remote for the garage. But then I don't have the wiper sensor windshield.

Re: 2014 GC OWNER'S Review

There were some posts about doing something when setting up the HomeLink to increase the range. Mine, with rain sense windshield, is a lot less than any other vehicle I've owned. It isn't so bad that I can't have the door fully open when I reach the garage.

Music to my ears.....this wife will soon be spending lots of time merging onto busy highways, hopefully without the speeding tickets but wearing a very similar grin

I now have 3200 miles on my 2014 Overland 6 cylinder. At this point it has been nothing but a joy to own. My wife and I find it comfortable to drive around town as well as on longer trips. We love the features, especially the advanced technology package.
The fit and finish are exemplary and to date we have had absolutely no issues with the vehicle. We love it.
Thanks Chevy and your co workers for building us a great SUV

I'm almost afraid to ask b/c you may think I should know but who is Chevy in relation to Jeep (Chrysler Corp)?
