Yeah, unfortunately no fix is in place yet. But we can't stop production altogether to wait on a solution to an intermittent radio problem... Sorry

Re: 2014 GC OWNER'S Review

[QUOTE=chevyboy_711;796365]Good question!

In other instances, like with the liftgates, there's no person to blame for an incorrect fit. The liftgates are installed by non-union robots that apparently aren't sufficient either. The liftgate isn't removed like the doors are, when the car proceeds through the plant.

QUOTE]

Good to know but I'm sure robots don't do the final inspection and these so called inspectors should have noticed the liftgates that were misaligned and then they should of pulled these units to have them realigned properly. Not passing them off so the customers have to get it done. But hopefully someone will have those liftgate installation robots adjusted so it doesn't happen in the first place.

Also thanks for all the info Chevyboy. You've been great.

Re: 2014 GC OWNER'S Review

I've had my Limited for about two months and have about 1600 on the clock. It replaced a 2012 Mercedes GLK. Took a road trip recently from Atlanta to Louisville Ky driving mostly back roads. The WK2 is one of the most comfortable most solid SUVs I have ever driven.
Uconnect is a little slow and can be easily confessed. Navi is not as good in my opinion as my 2008 GC. Fit and finish is superb! Paint quality included. Not sure I like the bronze tone on the black dash/interior but it's growing on me.Engineers could and should have come up with a better location for the CD player. Radio has froze once but after restart cleared up. Great Vehicle and would defiantly buy another one!
Great Job Detroit!

Writing software is not 1,2,3 ... you need to fix things, than unit test/regression test everything, and than QA software for a little bit in real car. I would say this is at least 1 month - 2 month cycle.

I believe there was release of new version of UConnect software late March. I would imagine you will not see anything until late May. Realistically looking it probably needs aditional couple of cycles to get stable. Everybody who buys this car now (including me) can call himself "beta tester". Don't mind bugs but I wish there was an easy way to do this upgrades. I don't want to go beg dealer to install software and potentially prove that it is broken. I wish they would log every crash so dealer can pull the logs and send them over.

Unfortunately, software is probably written by kids half way around the world who barley have any idea what they are doing. It is cheap though ...

Re: 2014 GC OWNER'S Review

I have just over 1000 miles on my Overland. Overall build quality is supreme, great vehicle all around. I of course have the three main gripes (which I knew of when ordering): street tires with the ORAII package, no flipper glass, and CD player eating up room in the center console (although I hadn't realized I'd also loose the upper tray too). Only issues I have had have been software related. SD card sometimes is not recognized on start-up and I have to eject and re-insert. I also don't like the position of the shift lever as my knee hits it when I have cruise on and take my foot off the accelerator.

Best vehicle I have ever driven, and I have driven many in all price ranges. Quiet, handles well, comfortable. Way happy with the performance of the Hemi and the 8 speed tranny. Was also happy I averaged 21 mpg on a road trip. Still have snow up here and the 4 wheel drive is outstanding, even with the standard highway tires.

Thank you Chevyboy for following up and asking about the product, and for producing such a good one to start with.

Does your CD player sometimes do the same thing?

Am curious: at what speed does the V6 go into 8th (looks like about 1200 rpm at 60) ?

Re: 2014 GC OWNER'S Review

From order date to picking it up took 24 days to receive my Limited - can't complain about that! It now has over 1,700 miles on it; my RA4 froze and sputtered once - the day I took delivery of it. From the next time I started the car until present it's been working fine; no complaints about it. I too had the screwed-up weather seal on the right rear door; I just took a plastic trim tool and carefully folded it over and tucked it in. Don't even notice it now and probably won't have the dealer replace it, as I imagine they'll screw it or something else up worse during the "fix". Have noticed no paint flaws or defects in mine, but I've only washed it once and haven't clayed it yet - that's when I'll find any paint defects if there are any. I do have a little scratch on one of the buttons on the steering wheel - but again, and for the same reason, probably won't have dealer replace it. I like the shifter just fine - once you get used to it and realize it doesn't have the travel of every other shifter you've ever used and small movements are all that's necessary it's all good. I can't stand the ECO button, though - it shouldn't even be on any GC with the V8, and as others have said you should be able to default it OFF instead of ON. I've gotten into the habit of punching it off every time I start the engine; can't stand driving in ECO mode! Quiet and comfortable ride; love the adjustable lumber support; heated seats and wheel; and the TFT 7" screen has got to be the best out there! For the money I feel the GC will stand above any vehicle from any manufacturer out there.

Wouldn't how fast you were accelerating also effect that?

Re: 2014 GC OWNER'S Review

I meant what is the lowest speed will a V6 go into 8th ? (less than 1/2 throttle or when backed off for cruise). The obvious answer if accellerating is "never".

Re: 2014 GC OWNER'S Review

I have about 1000 miles on my Summit. I came from a 2001 GC Limited.

Things I noticed right away, the ride is so much better than the 2001. 8 speed transmission is amazing compared to the 2001 and the way it sounded like the engine was going to drop out of the bottom of the car. The interior is really well done and people all comment about it when they get in. The slight external design changes from last year are nice. So far, this is a major upgrade than the old one, and right in line with the other luxury cars I drove during the selection process. Maybe I'm used to bad radios, but the sound system in the Summit so far has been impressive. Little things that I didn't have in the 2001, like the storage in the real wheel well are great. Miss my full spare though. This is full size, but not the same tires as the other 4. 2001 had full spare with matching rim.

Here are a few things that have bothered me so far:

1) Stupid dump truck kicked up a big rock and I have a small line in the hood and a knick in the windshield now.

2) Had alignment problems, the dealer helped it a little, but I fear there is something wrong with the tires. They claim they can't do anything about that and I have to go to a goodyear dealer to have them look at it. It pulls\drifts to the left.

3) Uconnect is slow, real slow. Takes a while to boot up and doesn't save the settings often. Sirius quality is really bad, worse than FM radio quality.

4) Minor paint defects.

5) Muffler ends were crooked, those were easily adjusted.

6) Heated seats don't get anywhere as hot as everyone is describing. In Wisconsin, I like it real hot. Old 2001 got way hotter.

7) I swear the wood part of the wheel was heated in the demo I test drove. Haven't gone back to check, maybe someone can confirm here.

8) Headlights get a LOT of condensation in them. Dealer didn't seem to want to do anything about it. Just said it wouldn't affect them. Sometimes I notice the headlights don't move when the wheel turns.

9) Needs a few more manual buttons, I don't like heated seats and other like controls hidden in UConnect menus. Everything is 2 clicks away though, so not bad.

10) iPod playback sounds good, but skips often. Not sure why, bluetooth with an iPhone 4S doesn't seem to skip.

11) Plastic at bottom of the door (where people often hit with their feet) gets scratched easily.

12) Haven't figured out how to get to the tow jack open without snapping off the plastic bumper cover safely. Tips?

13) Not much eco savings with the HEMI, still only getting about 14-16 MPG with some city driving and 18 miles of freeway driving to work each day. (This was expected though when I got the Hemi)

14) Seats aren't as soft as the 2001. Leather is much better quality, but we'll see if it's as durable.

15) On the ride back last night I got a check air suspension error, but it never returned and there are no messages on it this morning. Not sure what that was about.

16) I'm not sure I like the downshifting, but at the same time, I like it instead of having to brake so often\hard.

17) Auto headlights tend to go on all the time. They are too sensitive to low light.

Adaptive cruise is amazing. Auto high beams are nice. Auto wipers are nice too.

I (really) wish I could comment about the off roading, but there are plenty of videos on the internet. The family has a fairly large tree farm in Michigan, but I think I'll give this baby a few years to break in before I get the sides all scrapped up from the trees, lol. Having got the Summit, and the cost of it, scares me a little to go out back. (for now)

It's no SRT, but it's pretty fast. Smoked some jerk-off guy this afternoon that was riding my ass. Felt good.

Overall, I've very happy with the car. I know there will be other little things wrong with it over the years. I expected that from a Chrysler. (I used to work there in 2003) I got the $2000 max care lifetime unlimited mileage coverage. I tend to keep my cars a while. The wife (who is 5'1) likes that it goes up and down and is easier for her to get into.
