This is not an acceptable answer to me though because it makes my options insult or injury when it should be neither. I don't want to have to stand there and look at my car to make sure its locked when I get out. I want to be able to walk away and know from a nice mellow chime that while I was doing so the car has locked, not make little old ladies in the car two spots away loading groceries pee their pants or have to stand there and look.

Its something that almost everyone I know will complain about if you prompt them when they have gone from cars that have it to those that don't. Having the main horn honk is annoying. It says I don't care enough to install a separate speaker that would cost very little. Wiring and speaker all in probably less than a dollar when buying by the million as an automaker would buy such a speaker.

IMO where the Germans and others kill us in quality is not so much real quality itself and expensive materials but the perception of quality. I was one of the first people in the nation to get a C6 and when I got it there where many questions about quality, was it improved enough that a buyer of imports they hoped to snag not hate themselves for buying it? The thing is my wife at that time had a BMW that was almost exactly the same color. Looking at the paint with the two parked next to each other the quality was fairly even. They both had a little peel but nothing major, it really seemed similar and both were equally prone to getting rock chips. Get in and look at the dash. Both with the same soft touch materials that were then just coming out. Both got the same white haze from outgassing that the early soft touch materials had. Both smudged the same if you touched it. They both looked as if they could have come from the same factory. So in a lot of the big stuff it seemed to hold up well. Its all the little things where the Corvette fell down. I'll give you an example I still remember talking about over in Corvette land and it relates here and now. The door pocket on my wifes BMW had a little bit of felt like material in the bottom. It would slightly cushion something when you set it in there and acted to keep it from sliding around. No such piece could be found in the corvette pocket. Objects dropped in there hit hard plastic and slid around. Now that piece of material probably cost all of a penny. I'll be generous and go 3 cents if you want to cover installation. A person could add thirty such upgrades to a car and still not have increased the cars cost to build by one full dollar yet little things like this greatly impact our perception of quality in aggregate for the better or worse depending on which side of the coin you're on.

Look at the two cars I have now, get in my GC and drop something in the door pocket and I'm going to hear it hit hard plastic. As I drive I'm going to hear it sliding around on hard plastic. Get in my BMW and nope, its going to hit a fabric surface and stuff normally sits where you drop it. This is just one example among many. Lots of people think American automakers have to raise the costs of cars by thousands to improve their quality enough to compete with the imports and this is not entirely true. We could go a long way by spending just that dollar. This requires setting aside the notion that its ok to honk the horn (both actually and metaphorically) at customers. Its not ok, its says I'm not competitive with others who are doing it better.

Little things matter.
I don't want audio confirmation, I want visual. I want the option to set the parking lights to flash, not the headlights. I installed hid's in my wifes and I dont want those things going on and off. The parking lights flashing works just as good.

There is always a "butt", or "except for this", but that's the case with virtually every car out there. I have 64K on my 11, the only issues were a loose alternator wire giving an intermittent "battery" icon, and a broken windshield fluid nozzle. The 13 Hemi had the driver's seatbelt buckle was installed backwards, but we traded it that way. You got used to it! And it had the transmission "clunk", but it did all we asked it to do. The 14 diesel had an annoying buzz/rattle under the dash, which I found and fixed. It's returning an EVIC 23.x with my wife's foot in control most of the week!! The SRT8 is awesome. It does have the front fascia problem which is not bothering my dad at all. My in laws have a 12 V6 limited which they love. They did have to have a water pump replaced, as it had a slow leak. Our friends are on their 2nd GC. The first was a V8, and they now have a 14 V6. As long as a vehicle doesn't put me walking, I'll hang in there with it, as most vehicles I've owned eventually had an issue of some sort. To me, that's what a warranty is for. Since my wife puts 25K a year on her cars, we started purchasing extended warranties with "disappearing" deductibles, which our dealership sells and HONORS! They are great about giving me a "deal" on the warranties, and we get the extra piece of mind when we expire the 3-36 warranty. These days, you've gotta expect the inevitable "electronic" issues requiring "re-flashes", as that's simply the nature of the beast, with electronics playing such a large roll. And you really have to expect some issues (hopefully minor) when you get the "early run" of a new model. Remember no matter how much R&D any manufacturer puts into their cars, the real testing starts when they roll off the trucks at the dealership!!
I'm experiencing an annoying buzz/rattle coming from the dash on the drivers side of my '14 diesel. Where was yours coming from and how did you fix it? It's driving me crazy!

Not so much a diesel thing as this is 2014 WK thing.

And I totally think that you should have it. I said option, not requirement and its not about whether you want it to audible its what is making the audible sound if you do that matters. We can both be happy in the imports because they spent a few extra cents. We both cant be happy here because they did not. That is what is wrong, its about that dollar that isn't being spent.

Re: 2014 GC OWNER'S Review

I know when I push lock, I can hear the locks working so not sure why the horn honking is ever enabled or even an option from the factory or why the lights need to flash for that matter, although I do use the lights flash indicator functionality anyway.

I agree you can live without the honking upon lock and unlock. Some people like the feature because it can help locate the car when blinking lights alone may not be enough. I.E., crowded parking lot, bright day.

Also, when I remote start my Jeep at home I don't have line of sight, and it lets me know my remote signal hit the mark!

Re: 2014 GC OWNER'S Review

My thoughts on my '14 JGC - Overland / QDII / Trail Rated Package: We have had it since late October. Have had zero issues with the vehicle. I have an appointment in Feb to get the recall fix for christmas tree dash (which has NOT happened to this car).

This vehicle replaced a '04 Toyota Sequoia. before that we owned a string of 3 straight Toyotas - two camrys and a little supra. We absolutely loved the sequoia and it was our land yacht for 10 years carting the family around and to vacations. While the sequoia was flawless mechanically, it had lots of "little" things going wrong with it and 150k miles on it. Time for something new.

The wife DID NOT like the interior or exterior of the new sequoias and our kids are now big and no need for all that room - the Jeep hooked us with it's design and the "SUV of the year" hype. It's a gorgeous car - probably the nicest looking and feeling car I have ever owned. We are keeping our fingers crossed that we don't have a lot of issues and regret moving away from Toyota.

Here is my review:
I love almost everything about the vehicle. The ride on road is exceptional - quiet and smooth.

Having the capability of a jeep is great as well - In a recent ice storm we were buzzing around town like nothing happened. It also proved itself on a ski trip we just returned from. Our cabin was in a remote area with lots of steep hills to get to it on the private drive. A big sign at the entrance said you must have chains or 4WD/snow tires to enter. Roads were snow covered with 5" of fresh snow. Put it in snow mode and the jeep did not even notice the conditions. It inspired extreme confidence on that trip.

I would say my only disappointment is the electronics / technology. The "apps" are not designed very well and I DO NOT like having only soft buttons for the A/C.

I feel that the technology / user interface / ease of use found in your average smart phone should be in high end vehicles as well. The whole UI of the jeep interface feels like taking a step back about 10 years.

Here is hoping for a long and satisfying experience with our new jeep!

Thanks! When I get a chance I'm going to see if this fixes my issue. From the audio in the video it sounds the same as what I'm hearing in my GC.

Just to make sure everyone is aware. Hearing the honk and watching the lights still doesn't confirm your JGC is locked and secure. You can leave a door open and lock the vehicle with the usual auditory and visual confirmation, not knowing that the vehicle is still not secured. All other vehicles I owned would either refuse to lock and/or give you indication of failed locking.
