Yes me too. Maybe it the RPM increase but I can't duplicate that sound manually.

It's because it holds the gears longer, therefore higher RPMs=louder sound.

Yes, the MY2014 also sees an 80/20 torque split when in sport mode.

Suggestion: If the OP is in the USofA, the Jeep website allows you to order the OM in hard copy as the original owner. That way it can be perused while on the throne, etc. Search functionality dependent on user.

To add to that the Owners Manual does not go into detail on ANYTHING ! It is a vague as the Jeep Brochures.

My 2014 Overland V8 feels like it is on-edge, ready for cutting through traffic, responding immediately. I would not leave it in Sport mode, as that will hurt fuel economy, and holding the lower gears longer gives it more engine braking than needed in routine driving. The combination of the V8 and the new 8-speed makes it an excellent vehicle.

when i am getting close to a exit ramp off the hwy i turn off cruise control and put in sport mode and it down shifts all the way to 1st gear you can expect a lot more life on your brake pads ! i love sport mode its awesome and i notice that 0-60 time is better also

I used to think that until I compared the cost of a new transmission to new brake pads!
