2014 GC transmission, could it be mechanical?

Ok long story short, I've had my 14 GC V6 limited for 7 months now and not a single day has passed where the 8speed hasn't shifted like a 20 year old freight truck. I've done countless TSB flashes (most recent one about 3 weeks ago) and probably the same amount of battery pulls, nothing has provided a permanent solution. I've pretty much given up and decide to live with it, the jerky ride kinda made me reminiscent of my high school days with my crapbox civic

Anyway fast forward to bout 2 months ago, it's spring time here and I've done about 6000miles on the GC, I've began to notice that the GC when warmed up probably started to make smooth 1-3 shifts and the jerky ride was gone! As time went on the jerky shifting was only apparent during cold morning start ups and completely gone after 10-15 mins of driving.

Right now it's about 30degrees C here and I've had a record smashing 3 consecutive days with no signs of weird shifting or jerky ride at all. I feel like I'm driving a completely different car.

So my question is that could this be a mechanical problem after all and not a software one? The gearbox when properly warmed up in hot weather has shown absolutely zero symptoms of jerky shifting, each shift was bang on and extremely smooth even in lower gears, and the best of all is that all this is in ECO !

Re: 2014 GC transmission, could it be mechanical?

I was going to reply to the " raise your hand if your 8speed V6..." thread, but...

I too am around 6300 miles and just the other day I was amazed how everything was smooth ( and has been for a while), tranny and ride. My tranny has never been bad ( unlike others), but it seems to be flawless now. I was skeptical on keeping this WK2 long term, but if this keeps up I would consider it.

It's also spring here in Charlotte, NC. 35%City/ 60 Hwy / 5 very good acceleration and easily getting 21MPGs, V6, No TSB flashes for transmission...for those compiling data

Re: 2014 GC transmission, could it be mechanical?

I honestly feel that this is a mechanical issue because even after people have gotten flashes, new control valve bodies, etc. the transmission goes back to shifting like crap. The flashes seem to be temporary fixes in most of the new v6's but on the other hand the flashes have fixed(permanent?)the harsh shifting for some of the members as well, majority of the consumers still have the same symptoms after getting the flashes. Also, I remember a member posting this a few months ago that some of the new transmissions have had tiny metal pieces slip into them somehow which might be one of the reasons behind the clunk noise and feel when coming to a stop.
Just my two cents...

Re: 2014 GC transmission, could it be mechanical?

I still believe it's a software issue. If it was truly a mechanical issue then those who received the flashes most likely wouldn't have noticed any change... even a temporary change.

This is not Jeep's first learning transmission and it's not the first time people have complained about shift quality.

So what you are saying is that your transmission works better when it is warmer outside? Maybe yours is not heating up to temperature for whatever reason.
