Re: 2014 Gear Shift Confusion

Took a 16 with the new shifter out for a drive today. Just like the old days. No one should have any complaint with its operation.

So how was the stop start? and what about the low end grunt any noticeable gains like they were saying or same as the old 2014-2015 v6? whats your general impression of it. I'm trying to give my sister a little feed back on it and I have not driven on yet

Another DUMB design by idiot engineers who have to try and "fix" or change something that ain't broke.

Rinid?

Gee, let's put the gear indicator display where your hand covers it up !!!!!!

Oh, also, let's put "Park" somewhere in the middle with a second "P" on top of the shifter...

...and then add some separation lines that look like the letter "l".

P R I N I D. Yep, easy to learn!

The ESS actually felt pretty seamless. I was a little surprised by that. For as quiet as the interior is I barely noticed the engine shut down and restart. It happens pretty quick. As someone else stated you'll get a little lurch starting out if you're really quick from the brake to the gas. I did that once on the drive to see for myself... and that really wasn't that bad.

Take off and acceleration felt a little better and smoother than my 14 but I didn't romp on it to see if I could feel the 5 extra ponies. So, nothing negative to report here.

While I didn't have any issues with the shifter in my 14, I really like the new shifter in the 16. Feels just like the old mechanical shifter... positive detents and it stays in the gear position. Anyone finding complaints with it will never be satisfied with ANY shifter.

2014 Gear Shift Confusion

Can someone with a '16 pop the console trim up and possibly snap a pic of the connector?

Id like to compare it to connector in my '15.

Re: 2014 Gear Shift Confusion

This is the best shifter I've had in any of my vehicles. I think folks are just complaining about having what they are already used to. 16's are going retro if u ask me.

Re: 2014 Gear Shift Confusion

The only issue I have with the shifter has to do with the paddle shifters. The stereo controls on the back of the steering wheel are too close to the base of the paddles and I have accidentally kicked it into manual more than once when trying to adjust the stereo volume. The first time it happened I was doing 65 and All of a sudden I was in 8- good thing I rememberd how to kick it back to D.

There is nothing wrong with the BMW shifter. With park button on the top the driver has to be complete moron not to know how to put the car on park. I still can not believe Jeep engineers did not do the same thing and went back to 20th century with 2016 shifter. Hopefully they can wake up and come with something more 21st century for 2017 model. I am looking to get a new Overland, but no way I am going back in time.

There is nothing to learn about this shifter, the gear display is right in front of your eyes on the tachometer, shifter is so light you don't grab it with full hand there's no need to. Park button is in the most logical spot not sure what's so confusing about it. If you've never used one try it before posting.
