The v8 will drop back to 7th if you push it but not really any issue with it bouncing back and forth between them at all. If in 8th you hit the gas a little the MDS will shut off, hit it a little more it will drop back to 7th, you get a good feel for when its going to happen. I actually really like the v8 8spd combo, very smooth and decent power delivery. Its a.better nicier to drive setup than i was expecting from a heavy suv like this. The v8 powertrain gets high marks from me no complaints there. Some of the other systems on the GC, well those took some time to shake the bugs out of.

Lightbulb Re: I Just Received the Fix! (2014 Summit)

FCA just sent me a recall notice for the shifter and a really nifty set of instructions on how to shift the transmission into park. As Johnny Carson used to say, "I didn't know that."

They advise posting the 5x7.25" card on the sun visor. Now where did I put my duct tape?

Seriously, for the life of me, I cannot duplicate the "issue" that they describe in the recall. If I attempt to shut the engine while in any gear but "Park", I cannot do so. That in itself would tell me I failed to shift into park. I have tried every method I could think of as a means of defeating the safety lockout, and cannot come up with anything. Must be I am missing something...

What your missing is that there are people stupid enough to get out of their cars with the motor still running and the car still in gear and then blame/sue FCA because of their abysmal IQ and lack of common sense.

2014 Gear Shift Confusion

Got the same recall today in the mail ... I did put it in the trashcan right away.

4th quarter of 2016? Really? What a joke ... why even bother sending this?

Re: 2014 Gear Shift Confusion

just my little bit of input on this topic, i got to work one morning jumped out unlocked gate drove in stopped jumped out quick to lock gate again and the car rolled back into me and the gate, slight damage to bumper and my pride badly dented, i have never had anything like this in any auto car I have had before, my fault totally but that was the reason I left the motor running, and how the incident happened to me, think it just needs a chime or something to remind me the vehicles not in park, or maybe I'm just stupid lol

You don't understand. You first need to turn up your stereo, drive 68 MPH while texting or watching a movie on your smart phone that is in your lap (even without a self-driving car), don't use your turn signals (ever), stay stopped at a green light for an extra 30 seconds until someone finally honks.

Clearly, you are not distracting yourself enough while operating a 5,000 lb piece of equipment at high speeds around people and other vehicles.

Re: 2014 Gear Shift Confusion

This is the first Jeep recall where I plan to do nothing.

Re: 2014 Gear Shift Confusion

I like the shifter. I don't mind it isn't like the old days with the notches. The implementation could have been done better or more obvious especially when changing between gears when parallel parking. When I take my time, I look at where the gear is lit. But when there are cars waiting for you to park, you can get in a bit of a rush and at times the gear doesn't fall where it despite feeling the notches move from one to the next. You have to repeat the process before it properly falls into the intended gear.

I think a chime would work (that you can turn off) when shifting between gears as well as when the door is opened and it's not in Park.
