Problem with the Challenger is its heavier than both the Stang and Camaro and wallows in the twisties. I take a new Z28 over a Challenger anyday or a Boss 302. M4 is now a joke. Hellcat might make it into 2017 or 18 GC SRT8 and where it can do a great job on pavement. Shame Jeep cant build an off road GC with the Hellcat to give the Range Rover Sport some competition.
The Ford Explorer Sport with the Ecoboost is rated at 22/16 MPG, and the JGC with the 5.7L HEMI is rated at 22/16. The Explorer Sport also weighs 600-700 LBS less than a JGC HEMI, and the HEMI gives you an extra 40 lb/ft of torque. There is barely any difference in fuel economy, and I bet that a JGC with the HEMI would match or beat an Explorer if it weighed the same, both in fuel economy and performance.

The 5.3L GM V8 is down majorly on HP and torque (320HP/355lb/ft) and still gets worse fuel economy (in Tahoe, not an option in the Traverse, which is most comparable to the JGC).

Anyways, Marlon has hinted that a replacement is coming for the 5.7L HEMI in the next few years.

It isn't that Jeep couldn't make an off-road capable JGC with the 6.4L or 6.2L Hellcat, it is that it probably isn't worth Jeep's time or money. Most people want a street-focused vehicle when you have that much power. The RRS does manage to be pretty good on-road and off-road, but it isn't as good as it could be at either. I have driven a 2014 RRS and a 2014 JGC SRT on the street, and the SRT is definitely sharper and more responsive. It feels like a smaller, quicker, and more nimble vehicle than the RRS, even though the two are the same size, weight, and about equally fast. With the exception of the RRS's exceptional water fording, the off-road videos I have seen show the JGC (non-SRT) handling much tougher terrain than the 2014 RRS. Lastly, the 5.7L HEMI is only in ~15% of the JGCs, meaning that a more expensive, more powerful engine isn't worth putting into the JGC non-SRT because it probably won't sell too well. I too wish that Jeep would make a JGC with a 6.4L or 6.2L Hellcat HEMI, but I think that I am one of the few who would buy it. I know the RRS is selling well, but LR (especially the RR division) are a low volume company, unlike Chrysler and Jeep, and don't touch Chrysler's sales numbers. The Jeep would have to sell at a MUCH higher rate than the RRS to make it worthwhile because of this.

My guess is that the next-gen JGC (MY2017) is well below 6 seconds to 60 (despite Car and Driver's numbers, the current one gets to 60 in 6 seconds flat, I have video proof) and more fuel efficient, as the next-gen V8 will be more powerful and more efficient, and the JGC will be going on a diet (confirmed by Scott I think).

What is your obsession with comparing Jeep to range rover? SRT stands for STREET racing technology. When a buyer goes into the purchase of a GC SRT they know ahead of time they aren't getting off road capability nor is the SRT marketed for off road. Jeep has a line up that caters to every type of buyer. SRT is definitely geared toward different type of buyer than Overland is. Jeep is smart by keeping capabilities separate, it's what allows them to keep 5 models of the GC. Jeep has created it's own market, everyone knows about it's off-road abilities and now it's on road manners. The SRT is designed for those want a super fast SUV but don't need off road capabilities. You can hype up the RR Sport all you want, truth be told, RR's are nice but the longevity of a RR won't surpass the Jeep. Range Rovers need to stay in the luxury market and Jeep needs to stay in the middle of both the off-road and the luxury market like they have done with the 2011-presant GC. Smart move and good job Jeep.

Don't argue with a idiot. He is better at it than you and will bring you down to his level.

Question:

How does everyone feel about Sterling Heights Assembly Plant helping JNAP with overflow production of OUR Jeep?

From a consumer's perspective:

I would much rather have my Jeep built at JNAP, given that JNAP is the plant that is SUPPOSED to be building the JGC in the first place. I don't trust that the Jeeps coming out of a factory where people aren't used to building them will be as good as the Jeeps coming out of JNAP. Also, what did they have to do to be able to build the WK2 alongside the Chrysler 200? It doesn't seem like the machines (and people, as I have mentioned) would be equipped to build the WK2.

Now, (an attempt at) thinking from the perspective of a JNAP worker:

I probably would not like another assembly plant to be taking over part of my job, however, if it was that or being worked into the ground, I might rather not be worked into the ground (that depends on pay ).

Marlon, does it take any of the load off of you guys? Maybe it is better that Sterling Heights builds some so that you guys aren't run into the ground, but that is something that only you guys working at the plant can answer.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Two body shops and assembly carriers that can fit both vehicles is all that is necessary assuming the plan is similar to Belvidere Assembly.

Send durango production there. Instead of you guys producing durangos and grand cherokees and then sterling heights producing grand cherokees, you guys make one, they make the other.

Yes. That. This would free up a LOT of room in the plant too. Durango parts take up way too much space!

In regards to taking a load off... not really as we will still run our normal pace, and this screwed up work schedule too.
