Hi Milous, thanks for the info. Do you happen to know what model(s) will be receiving these upgrades? In particular I'm wondering about the Laredo, which currently doesn't have a center console screen.

I am guessing they ALL will be getting an 8.4" center screen and 7" IP screen.

I believe Milous indicated the 8.4" will be available with or without navigation. If you get it without navigation, you can upgrade it later by adding the navigation "app".

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Hi,

This is my first post and I am hoping someone is able to answer some of my questions. First off, I am the owner of a 2010 Prius, bought new in July 2009. I currently have about 16,800 miles on it. As you can see, I do not drive much and do not really have a need to own a Prius. My previous ride was a 98 4Runner Limited 4x4. Toyotas are great, but I want to try something new.

As you can tell by my name on this forum, I hope to be a future Jeep Grand Cherokee owner. If it does happen, it will be my first Jeep. I've always had them in the back of my mind, but there was always something that prevented me from purchasing one, but not this time. This time, I think the WK2 are beautifully designed and engineered. The interior is gorgeous, bar none, for a capable SUV. What I would like to know is:

1) Will the 8 speed be the ZF or TorqueFlite one that will appear on the Ram 1500? I know there is a difference. However, I'm guessing all of Chrysler's future Trucks and SUVs will have the TF. Why else would they build a factory to produce it in Indiana? If it is the TF, will the electronic shifter be placed on the dash, similar to the 2013 Ram's? And if not, which engine size will get the ZF (probably the 3.6), and which will get the TF?

2) I'm sure there will be a price increase when the 8 speeds + new infotainment system come out, would anyone know approx. how much?

I'm hoping someone, perhaps the Milous gentleman, can answer these questions for me.

Thank you.

Welcome to the forum FutureJGC, I can answer some of your questions...

1) All of the new 8-speed transmissions are ZF. "TorqueFlite" is a marketing name that will be used for all of them. There are at least 4 different variants that are/will be manufactured for Chrysler cars and trucks - light duty, medium duty, heavy duty and extra-heavy duty. Most of Chrysler's future cars and trucks will be switching over to the new 8-speed, with some FWD models going to a 9-speed.

According to the latest information I have, the dash mounted electronic shifter is going to be used only on pickup trucks. It's possible that the Grand Cherokee could switch over to this style in the years ahead, but I don't foresee it happening on the 2014 models.

2. It's far to early to predict pricing for the 2014 model year. Pricing is typically not announced until very near the time that the vehicle starts production, and in some cases not finalized until after production has started. I would expect that the price increases for the 2014 models will not be significantly higher than the outgoing 2013 models.

Stay tuned to this thread for additional exclusive information for the 2014 model year that will be posted along the way as details are confirmed.

Thank you Milous, for your quick response. I've been lurking on this site for quite some time before actually signing up for an account. Now, I will periodically check in for more info on the 2014s as it is the only vehicle on my list right now.

Right; I ask though because currently the Laredo (non-X) doesn't come with any center screen whatsoever (the Media Center 130 RES's display only shows the clock, etc.).

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Depends on whether C-J needs a "loss-leader" for 2014. I suspect that the only reason the Laredo "E" exists is because of competition (and possibly fleet sales).

Thanks for the info Milous. Any idea if the GC 3.0 CRD will be inc in the original launch for the 8-speed transmission? Any idea of the timeline?

I also am looking forward to a 2014 GC, the stated updates sound fantastic. Milous, please conment, if you can. Just wondering, in addition to the already stated updates, have you possibly heard of any updates to the 3.6L V6 engine, ie., DI and or multiair? Thankyou, Franklin.

The info I have shows the current 3.6L engine for model years 2013 and 2014.

Other than "1st quarter 2013" the exact launch date for the diesel is not known at this time. I'm thinking that the CRD will launch with the 8-spd, but I have not been able to 100% confirm this or if it will be "late availability". I think it's going to depend on how well the new transmission plant is running by then.

Do you expect the CRD to be released before the mid-cycle refresh updates? Or possibly as an early release for 2014MY? Maybe 2nd quarter 2013? I find it hard to believe they would release the CRD with 2013 specs if someone can wait a few more months and get the 2014 updates.

Also, when you say "launch date", does this mean availability date (can actual drive home), or just that you can place an order?
