I think that its actually the difference in gearing. I think! I thought that ZF uses the general name of 8hp45 but Chrysler renamed their application to 845re.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Somewhere in here is specified different torque ratings with the higher one being for the Hemi and the Diesel....

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Peterson's 4Wheel&Offroad just tested a '13 Ram, they said the 8HP45 is rated at 332lb-ft, the 8HP870 at 516lb-ft...but they sometimes are off by a little, or probably also depends on who they talk to at Ram/Chrysler/Jeep, and said the Ram pulling a little boat with the Pentastar/8spd, was just fine, and was peppy. They also said the combo worked flawlessly. Should be pretty decent in a lighter Grand...makes me think what it would do to my new Hemi Limited.

I thought the 2 versions for the US would be the zf 8hp45 for the v6 and the zf 8hp70 for the v8 and the diesel applications due to the increase torque values produced by the larger engines. I could be wrong for once.

8hp45/845RFE for the V6 (450 TQ)
8hp70 for the diesel and Hemi's (700 TQ)

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

I originally asked the question about the 8HP45 and 845RE because each was listed separately on the WK2jeeps website for the 3.0 diesel and 3.6 V6, with a third option (8HP70) for the 3.0L diesel and the hemi. I knew the first two were the lower torque, but was curious if there were different gearing choices or something. This is the section on the site where all the 2014 features are listed.
Thanks Milous for all of the info that you have provided.

Thanks Milous for backing up my brilliant knowledge base. I take back most everything bad I've ever said about you.
I have a hunch about the new gray paint color called billet. I think it's going to be a billet metallic like the charger instead of the flat gray billet from the Wrangler family. Any thoughts or tidbits? Yes, I am fishing!

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

A tidbit from Marlon_JB2 for a change.

2014...

>_________<

2011 looks like this...

\_________/

Let's see if any of you can figure this out.

I'll give you a clue... It's a slight change of styling.
