Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Great info. Thanks JeepGarage!

I am a little disappointed that the 8 sp ZF unit will not be available until 2014. Jeep isn't haven't trouble selling these vehicles so I guess they'll just pocket the money until then.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Since the CRD is being sold in Europe already (but build in the US I guess) it would not surprise me if they would start selling the exact same version in the US in 2012/2013. I just hope that the CRD in Europe gets the 8 speed box as quickly as the other engines.

Milous, when you say "not all trim models" does that mean that this is not engine related, i.e. rather limited vs overland?

Thx
Robert

Really Looking forward to the 2014 model... I'll probably be ready to trade in the 2011 by then.

Also, when you say "launch date", does this mean availability date (can actual drive home), or just that you can place an order?
"Transitions" happen with ever model year, meaning that people still buy vehicles at the end of a model year when a "new/improved" model is just months away.

Launch date is when retail production starts, ordering usually opens up a month or two ahead of that.

Correct; would not be engine related. As far as I can tell the 2014 engine line-up will be the same as current models, with the *possibility* of a special edition performance SRT model sometime during the 2014 model year.

Still no updates on the CRD though? Any rumblings that it could be released with 8 speed and mid-cycle refresh options? i.e. first 2014MY WK2 available... possibly as early as late 1Q or 2Q 2013?

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

For those of you wondering about the CRD/8speed, might check out the 2013 thread for some not so subtle hints from Milous Those of you waiting for the CRD/8spd AND 2014 updates will be VERY, VERY, VERY HAPPY.

Milous, Any idea of the fuel/ power changes to the 2014 crd 8 speed model compared existing 5 speed?

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Not sure what you are asking...but the CRD is a diesel, and the engine will be the same one sold overseas with maybe some slight differences in output due to stricter emissions standards in the US.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Since the engine is already available in Germany I can tell you that it
is an excellent engine (as long as you think Diesel engines make sense, they do unfortunately in Germany due to gas prices). However, it looses a bit of its potential due to the five speed gear box, although, I do not think that it makes a lot of a difference in the US as it is more an issue with Autobahn speeds. But responsiveness should improve with the new gear box.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

I have been told by a dealer , that the 5 spd transmission is used due to existing contracts with mercedes out of the former chrysler-Mercedes liaison wich led to the common platform of the M-Modell and the WK2. Maybe the date for the introduction of the 8 spd is not due to technical, but to contract reasons.

Happy Day

Curio

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

I would expect the 8 speed transmission mated to the crd to be more fuel efficient. The existing 5 speed produces 28.4 mpg, anyone hazzard a guess what the new figures would indicate?
